'Hot Matches'

I have a large family tree, full of names, with their basic dates of birth, marriage & death .. but I am always looking for background information to help create a picture.

One of my distant relatives married in 1861 and had 6 x children.

In the 1871 census, the husband was not with the family, and a nationwide search suggested that he may have been imprisoned on the other side of the country.

I spent a couple of weeks trying to confirm whether it was the same person, and the details of his crime, but I was getting nowhere ...

... then the 'Hot Matches' updated, and within a week, I had made contact with several descendants of their children, one of whom had emigrated to Australia.

The information that I subsequently received from these contacts was amazing .. a copy of their marriage certificate .. photographs of the couple and their children .. an 1869 'newspaper cutting' detailing the crime .. another 'cutting' detailing the trial and the full accounts of all the witnesses .. and with his subsequent death in prison, a copy of the coroners report showing the cause of death.

Within a couple of weeks, I had the full story, and a fascinating insight into life at that time .. my thanks to those that made contact and provided the information, and my thanks to G.R for adding the 'Hot Matches' facility.
