And the last shall be first -- Ann Swabey is doing heroic work on my Hill/Monck Coke/McCock boondoggles; a work in progress still, but two steps forward thanks to Ann -- Rossiter Coke/McCock's Anglo-Boer War enlistment papers ... and ... his father Charles being declared bankrupt! (I just *knew* it was gambling led to that name change.) So: thanks to Ann!

A step forward some weeks ago thanks to Lewella, too, with the Hill/Moncks arriving in Australia. So: thanks to Lew!

And thanks to all who have read the tales, whether they have been entertained or bored by 'em, just for reading. Thanks to all the people who bring their own family mysteries to the boards, for rescuing me from the daily grind of work (my impatient clients do not thank you) and providing fascinating puzzles to play with, and all the glimpses of social history they allow. And thanks too to the other members here who enjoy all those puzzles and helping complete strangers solve them (just read these posts for the names), and who do it with wit and humour and (usually) admirable forebearance in the face of sometimes mighty trials. ;)

And thanks to the people who says thanks, either here or in their question threads or privately, when their questions get answered. It's great fun, but it's also a great feeling to know that you've found someone the grandma she and her dad never knew, a continent away. I was lucky to have my grandmothers for long lives, and now my mum (who always thought she was a Monck!) thanks everybody too, and if my dad were here, so would he.
