Hi SS, a Jalousie is actually a type of french window with slats.

The dish is made with a bottom layer of pastry, which can be topped with various fillings, eg chicken mixture. Another sheet of pastry (puff) is placed over the top, having first been folded in half and having diagonal cuts made into it so that when it is opened out to put on the top of the filling it looks like slats. This is then baked.
