His real name was Eric but I don't recall any funny shorts although some of his father's shirts might be considered funny today.

He would know about it if he got skin cancer. The heat you are experiencing is not the norm and you have to be extra careful.

Me either Daff being brown doesn't bother me. I got a Melanoma which I had to have cut out of my back. Luckily it wasn't too deep but it was Milignant and they caught it in time. The only time I have ever gone out in the sun is to hang my washing out. So it doesn't take long

Sorry to hear you had a melonoma once, I believe the same ... always use sun protection, wear a large floppy hat, my sunglasses to protect my eyes ... we were brought up to wear layers, when the sun is at its hottest even though I'm under a parasol, I wear a pretty cotton blouse or go indoors for a while.

I'm neurotic about sun tan lotion, my daily moisturiser has a factor 15.
I am darker skinned then the rest of the family and am even worse with them !
Son cut the hedge on Friday and wouldn't put lotion on cos he said he'd get sticky with the hedge clippings !!! I kept on at him but he wouldn't let me put any on him, as a result he went quite red.
I always wear protection and if I went red would be a hospital case !
Hubby tends to go red before he tans even with lotion.

The UK people have such fair skin too Daff and it is really hot
there at the moment in London yesterday it was 42C now that is hot.
I don't think your mother was eccentric at all. It's been proven sun causes skin cancer

I hate the hot sun and I know they love a nice bit of sun over in UK but they really do need to be careful. It doesn't take long in the sun to get burnt. Especially the heat they are having
