I was President for 11 years Daff.
I had that many arguments with our Council over those years.
They never did anything for us. We did and still do all our own maintenance and cleaning of the hall. It is Heritage Listed also but we never get anything done to keep it up to standard. We do what we can with the funds we have available but like you say the council still have their big lunches and can hop off here there and everwhere on a plane all expenses paid by the rate payers.

Makes me sick sometimes when I see how they spend silly money

Our council is forever raising rates and blowing money on mayoral dinners and "fact finding tours" and such.
I was an elected councillor years ago in another state, the boys still have a lot of newspaper cuttings but OH would have conniptions if I ran again besides it's all party related here now.

We are a non Profit Organisation. We are all volunteers and no one gets paid. We don't get any assistance everything is put back into the club. We do some Charity shows also. Last Friday we donated all our profits for the night to the Royal Flying Doctors which was about $1500

The hall we rent belongs to the Shire and we have been there since 1972 we paid high rent until recently when they finally decided that some Charitable Organisations shpuld get help. We only pay about $500 per year now instead of $15,000 a year so that was a big help.

Is the group self funding or council assisted?
Just tell me I am nosey but having a council that is too lousey to fund community drama groups I am curious.
