Like Australia it is a big country with varying climate. Beijing has snow in the city in winter and hot weather in summer up to about 35 c. Entertainment is much more affordable, working classes can afford to go to the opera or ballet regularly and most white collar workers have domestic help. Not that I could come at the servant caper.

That's the trouble it's hard to know what to get rid of.
Because I hadn't been married long I didn't have a great collection of things. I just mainly brought clothes and my Wedding Gifts with me.
It would be a different matter now though I really wouldn't want to part with a lot of my things.

But I suppose you have to be drastic when you clear out when moving to another country.

It's not worth shipping a lot of stuff, it costs less to buy new in our case but of course if it was another country that might not be the case. But things like my books and cuckoo clock and all the Greek and Egyptian ornaments can't be replaced.

I really hope you have a great life over there.

I meant to ask you is it a cold country or do you get the heat we get here?

I think within 12 months and of course I will still be able to keep in contact with everyone, in fact our lifestyle over there is better than here.Ordinary people who are not political or members of radical sects enjoy a better life than most Australians.

It's a big job. It's not too bad in the same country but when you are moving such a distance there are only certain things you can take.
I don't envy you one bit.

When we moved to Australia I sold or gave away most of my stuff. We hadn;t been married too long and just could'nt afford to ship it all out. We practically had to start a fresh when we finally got a place of our own, We stayed with Mum and Dad for a few months at first as they sponsored us out here. It was a big move but never regretted doing it.

I am not going anywhere Jackie, my next trip will be one way when we move to China, I dread having to sort what to keep and what to sell or give away then.

Somebody sent me a file to check regarding my grandparents and there were a few errors in it so I was editing it and putting in the correct details.Of course I found they had some info I didn't have about some of Grandfather's 20 siblings, then of course I started cross checking their info on the others against mine. Then it was nearly 1 A M.
