Re Berwickshire Militia in Suffolk -
this may have been posted already on one of the many other threads. I can't be bothered to look.
"At that time, in 1813, one in every 12 Lodges operated via a Military Warrant, which gave them an ability to work their Lodge wherever they were garrisoned. . . . . .
In 1780, The Berwickshire Militia was granted a Military Warrant by the Antient Grand Lodge of England to Consecrate the Hirsel Lodge No 237.
We know for definite that the last Recorded meeting place of the Hirsel Lodge was in 1811 when the Berwickshire Regiment of Militia was stationed in the Town of Woodbridge on the Suffolk Coast. . . . .
. . . . .We also know, for definite, that on the 2nd of March 1811, for whatever reason, possibly because it had been lost on some battlefield or other, the Berwickshire Militia submitted a petition to the Antient's Grand Lodge for a new Warrant and this would be granted under the Number 237B – which appears to confirm that it was a replacement rather than a new Warrant. . . . . .
. . . . We also know for certain that on the 24th March 1811, the Secretary of the Hirsel Lodge wrote to the Grand Secretary of the Antients Grand Lodge, informing him that the Berwickshire Militia were expected to relocate and hoped that the Warrant be issued as soon as possible.
Correspondence records held at the Grand Lodge of England indicates that the Regiment and therefore the Hirsel Lodge was in Edinburgh during 1812 and Kilmarnock in 1813."

The Renfrewshire record is a baptism. Burt it's only a suggestion.
All we know is that John was born in Scotland, but not in West Lothian. Such old parish records haven't all survived.

This marriage are you saying it was in Renfrewshire or is that a birth ? I don't think they are mine
The spelling is different each time I find anything and as the Scottish name their children I'd expect a boy to be Alexander and a Girl Rachel But they don't appear
A friend that I've been doing the McAlpine side is going to Suffolk Library as that is where she got the Birth for George 1810 and the Militia details
as when George was born John was serving there
Thank you for your help again
I'm no good at linking things together sorry

I took note of the actual spelling of the man's name on the marriage record on SP................
...........................AND........................................
MCCALPIN JOHN ALEXANDER MCCALPIN/RACHAL MASSON FR995 (FR995) M 23/07/1787 559 30 / 59 ABBEY (Renfrewshire)
NOT saying it's definitely the right man, of course!!!
and...........you could have found this yourself, Sylann ;-) ;-) ;-)

ALL of your old threads can be found by looking under ‘My threads’
YOU may not keep your old records, but GR do.........and asking over and over for the same info is not good.
ALSO…….Try googling. ‘Berwickshire Militia’
Neither John nor Margaret was born in West Lothian, if 1841 is accurate

It might be a good idea to keep hold of your old enquiries and at least give their reference details when you post to save people looking up the same information over and over again. Members look for background when helping to answer queries

Have you found any others - the names might give a clue to John and Margaret's parents if they "followed" the Scottish naming pattern
