What are you asking for, Jennifer?
Do you mean you want to trace his ancestors?

If you're hoping for wartime records (as you've posted on "Military Chat") - they're not online for WW2. Still held by the MOD.

If you're looking for ancestors -
this is the son's birth record, on Scotlands People website:

When the SP offices get back to normal working, you'll be able to buy a copy of the birth cert through SP.
It will tell you both of his parents' names, and the place and date of their marriage.

Then you can work backwards from there.

I am trying to trace James Alexander who worked for British Intelligence during the war he had a son Robert Buchanan Alexander born in Kilwinning Scotland 1944/45 any suggestions please. Thank you
