Hi, I have been trying to find out more from a relative. Job Lewis .. He was engaged to be married, The only address he remembers is the Uplands which is a small area in Swansea, that is the only thing my cousin can remember about the details. I have looked throught the archives of all the Swansea men who lost their lives, and you maybe right, no Job Lewis listed ... He may have been stationed here ? There is an area in IOW called the Uplands. I am going to try and get the local newspaper archives, apparantly his death was mentioned in a daily paper. Thanks for all your info..

The man whose info has been posted and who died at Dunkirk served in a Welsh Regiment. He may well have been in Swansea for a short time

Where did you find the Swansea address?
Is it possible we've been following the wrong man?
ADDED: A Google search tells me that Uplands is a suburb of Swansea - not necessarily a full address.
There's also a street named Uplands in Port Talbot, not far from Swansea, on 1939 Register. Seems to be called The Uplands nowadays.
Posting just in case relevant - though probably not: this couple are at No 25 in 1939:
William J Lewis in the 1939 England and Wales Register Name: William J Lewis Gender: Male Marital status: Married Birth Date: 8 May 1909 Residence Year: 1939 Address: Uplands 25 Residence Place: Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, Wales Occupation: Annealers At Tin Works Heary Worker Line Number: 5 Schedule Number: 113 Sub Schedule Number: 1 Enumeration District: XKAV Borough: Port Talbot Registration district: 592/3 Inferred Spouse: Mary M Lewis Household Members: Name William J Lewis Mary M Lewis - 16 April 1907
There's also an Arline G Lewis, single, cook, 16/03/1908, at 6 Uplands Terrace, Swansea in 1939.

The name Job pronounced jowb is from the old testament - there is a book named after Job, it is the 18th book of the old testament.
I have many relatives named this in Victorian times

If he was in the RAF, he wasn’t a soldier.
If he was a Captain, he wasn’t in the RAF
If he died on active service, there will be some info on the CWGC site. Try looking there
Otherwise, look for his death on freebmd for age
