From what you say, I assume he was in the 1st Battalion:

"The 1st battalion served in the 1899 to 1902 Second Boer War; the 2nd battalion was stationed at Hong Kong until October 1902, when they transferred to India and were stationed at Chakrata."

Look for info online. Simply put Royal Welch Fusiliers in your search engine. There will be a history somewhere

I am hoping someone might know about his army life from about 1898-1906, battles the royal welch in before lady smith and after ,where did they train in the UK, how did the get to south Africa and get back home

spent 1898-1905 in the royal welch fusleers came out a sgt , his btn served in the boar war in most battles a long the tugler river later he was at ladysmith
in 1907 ?? he joined leeds police retired 1933 ish
