I am trying to find out about a relative who in Glasgow 1911 census is listed as a musician. Through reading info and WDYTYA, most musician ancestors are in the military. His name was Walter Alexander aged 23. How can i find out musician ancestry? Coincidentally, it is my grans family in the same house and same census but both my gran(Jean Keating) and her ma(Mary Keating) are both missing from this house/census. Thanks in advance for any info sent.

Although you may think that all musicians were in the military, don’t forget the music & concert hall orchestras!
As you’ve obviously paid to view the 1911 on Scotlandspeople, where does he say he was born?
Have you checked the other ‘households’ listed at the property? In England each household was on a separate sheet. Is it the same for Scotland? Your missing relatives may still be there.

I have only reregistered with Scotlands People now after a few years away. The Alexanders and Keatings are in the same house and are related. Granny Keating is missing as is her ma. I searched many times and they are not appearing in the Scottish census in 1911. On the musician front, i am not sure where to start looking(archives in Scotland?)He is born in Glasgow as are all of the others.

In the Scottish 1911 census, it's not one family per sheet, but several, as in previous censuses.
How old would have Mary (and/or Jean) have been in 1911 ? - so that we may be able to spot them.

Young Jean's birth:
KEATING JEANIE F 1905 644/8 954 Milton
I still don't see her in 1911 (at least not with Mary) in spite of searching with all sorts of variations of her name.
There are one or two possibilities for her and for Mary, but not together.

Yes i have most of this info. The one in Canada is my grans relative. I got to visit Molly over there in 2003(she passed away the next year). A deaf musician would be a rare find but i think he is 23 in 1911 so not the same one. I tried all the options of Jean, Jeannie etc andcould not find her too. Maybe on a ship visiting Canada? Or hiding from the husband for some reason(which i doubt)

I agree, and had already doubted, that the deaf would-be soldier is not your Walter.
However, you asked "How can i find out musician ancestry?"
You have not commented on the rest of the records I posted about Walter. ( Unless that comes under "Yes i have most of this info." )
Do you agree that he was Mary's brother?

If he was listed as musician in the 1911 census, it's unlikely that he was in the military. His service rank would take priority.
It's not really true that most musicians were 'in the military' - think of all the orchestras which existed.
e.g. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is a Scottish orchestra, administratively based in Glasgow at the RSNO Centre. The RSNO receives support from the Scottish Government. Wikipedia Active from: 1891
and
Glasgow Orchestral Society, founded in 1870, is a symphony orchestra with about 70 members. Our repertoire covers a wide range of music, from the classical era to the present day, including new works (recently by John Maxwell Geddes and Tom David Wilson) and choral works with local choirs.

Just Google their names, Marcas.
Royal Scottish National Orchestra: https://www.rsno.org.uk/contact/
Glasgow Orchestral Society: http://www.gos.org.uk/#contact
But those are only two possibilities. He may not have been a classical musician.
There were also many theatres, music halls, and dance halls in Glasgow in those days, all of which would have had musicians.
For instance, the Theatre Royal: http://www.glasgowtheatreroyal.org.uk/ The Pavilion: https://www.paviliontheatre.co.uk/ The Citizens Theatre: https://www.citz.co.uk/about
And others, many of which will no longer exist. To name just one, the Albert Ballroom was opened in 1905, but destroyed by fire in 1974.
