Military Chat

My Grandfather is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, northern France.

I have found that info is available via forces-war-records but it needs a subscription.

I know his service number, that he was in the Royal Ordnance Corp and died on the 21st July 1918.

Wondering if anyone has a subscription and could look to see if anything else is there that I don't already know.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Only his medal card on Findmypast so it looks as though his service records were amongst the 70% of WW1 records destroyed by fire.

Family history has been thought he was at Flanders.

I was hoping to find if this was where he was injured, but if so it still wouldn't account for why he ended up at Terlincthun, some 120 miles away.
Assuming he was in a nearby hospital as his death was many months after Flanders

With records being destroyed, I suppose it's one of those things I'll never know.

His listing on the CWGC uses his middle name

Seems some men were reburied there from other cemeteries that couldn't be maintained
