It might help if you told us when he was born.

I've got an idea that the majority of Irish regimental records were kept in Ireland. Just as well if that was the case as over 70% of ones kept on the mainland were destroyed as a result of WW2 bombing and subsequent fire.

Hi there

Ive just found out that my g grandfather was in the boer war - I got this information from a birth certificate of one of his children. However I no other documents concerning this. He was a Derry man in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers - his number was 2206. I have found his Attestation record? taken from 1908.

A man that conducts irish ww1 research says that he has found several records from ww1 and before of my g grandfather however he charge £60. Can someone help me out to find these records myself? Can you even send me links to what you find - I don't mind paying for records but I believe £60 is quite high , especially for us students lol.

Thomas mc Laughlin or mcloughlin
2nd battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
2206
((this Thomas although he is from derry , is not the same Thomas of the same battalion who is on the derry war memorial , for some reason)

My Thomas wife was Margaret o neill not annie who was the other mans wife.

All comments will be much appreciated.

Thankyou!

John
