my grandfather born in Liverpool 1899. Next of kin Martha Foster nee Fairclough

Can anyone tell me what regiment he was in please. Injured WW1

Was Martha his mother? If so then this looks like them in the 1911 census:-

Unfortunately Joseph Foster is quite a common name so it will not be easy to find his regiment or service number without more information.

Yes that is the family as he was not married his mother would have been his next of kin.

During the war he was down as a/n which meant he had joined the Navy or Army.
He was injured when he was in France. Still no record.

But unable to find the a regiment been told possibly destroyed during WW2

Over one million Silver War Badges were issued to men and women who were honourably discharged due to illness or injury during World War One.

The badge was first issued in 1916, and could be applied for by all of those discharged since the start of the war. Approximately half of the almost two million men and women who were eligible to wear the badge applied for it.

The small circular silver badge bears the initials of the King and a crown and is inscribed with the words ‘For King and Empire, Services Rendered’
