10503, L/Cpl William Ezra Timperley, 3rd Cheshire Regt. Died from sickness contracted in France and shipped home at age 22 years. Unknown where he fought. Home address at this time was 28, Gloucester Street, Salford, Lancashire. How may I find out what medal/s he was awarded, please? TIA |

Williams medal card is on Ancestry. It states that he entered France on 19/1/1915 and qualified for the 15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Before he was in the 3rd Cheshires it is possible he was in a different battalion, say 2nd Cheshires who did a stint in France before moving to the Egypt / Salonica theatre. longlongtrail.co.uk suggests that the 3rd Cheshire was a training Bttn and based in England for the duration of the war. |

Thanks for the added info folks. I have since found he went to France with the 1 Battalion Volunteers. Your new bit is about Egypt. A discrepancy arises when you have him listed as a private whereas the CWGC has him as a Lance Corporal. I am assuming that in times of wear errors were made. He is on the Regent Square Memorial as 10503 l/Cpl Timperley w.e. CR. I am now closing this line on him and looking at his family to see if he had siblings. Thanks again for your sterling work. D. |

Thank you, Margaret, a couple of points I don't understand. Who is Alice Griffiths? Not seen her name before. |
