COMMITTED TO ASSIZES FOODSTUFFS THEFT CHARGE
Frank Chalk (32), painter, 17, Porchester-road, Norbiton; James Brown (26), lorry driver, 52, Douglas-road, Norbiton; and Robert Campbell (25), labourer, 21, Penrhyn-road, Kingston, were committed for trial at Surrey Assizes by Kingston County magistrates yesterday (Friday) on a charge of being concerned in breaking and entering the shop of C. Moon and Sons, Ltd., at 26, Victoria-road, Surbiton, on January 19th and stealing foodstuffs including 741 b of sugar, and a pair of scales, worth £10 16s. 9d.
Chalk was also committed for trial on further charges against him only of breaking and entering a house at 157, Mapleroad, Surbiton, between December 17th and December 27th. and stealing property worth £2B, and with receiving part of the property, worth £12; and with breaking and entering a warehouse at 25. Churchroad, Kingston, between January 2nd and 3rd. and stealing a safe and contents worth £59. and with receiving part of that property worth £1 10s. All three men were granted bail.

James Brown and Robert Campbell were sentenced 15 months imprisonment. Frank pleaded guilty only to receiving stolen goods and not guilty to breaking into the properties.

WARNING TO SHOPBREAKERS
Laurence Vine, prosecuting accepted the pleas, and remarking he had read a statement put in by Chalke, Lord Hewart sentenced Chalke to six moths imprisonment.
Mr Vine stated that Detectives Dyas and Cooper were patrolling Victoria-road, Surbiton the night of January 19th when the accused men standing near the gate of Messrs - Moon’s premises. One threw down a milk bottle to test, by the noise, if anybody was about. Other officers arrived and Brown and Campbell were arrested inside the shop. Chalk was arrested after getting over a wall. Later, at Chalkes address, articles stolen at other places were found.
Det-Sergt. James said that Chalk had one previous conviction, Brown eight and Campbell six. Before sentences were passed none of accused had anything to say from the dock.

Can anyone help? Stanley Frank Chalke sometimes known as Frank Stanley Chalke born 1908 volunteered in about 1926, I think he was possibly in royal artillery. He died 1977. Can't find anything on military records as he enlisted between the wars, but he must have fought during WW2.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
