Further military records give his full name as George Joseph Thomas Curtis. He sailed with his unit in October 1915. In May 1916 he received a gunshot wound to the humerus. He was admitted to the Hammersmith Military Hospital, London then was sent back to Canada on Nov. 1916 aboard the SS Grampian.

The 04 July 1914 - Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette - Bath, Somerset, England has the sad tale of the drowning of Lily Rosaline Curtis aged 17, daur of Fanny's eldest son John Curtis (acc to 1891 census posted), and wife Emma Butts . It was deemed to be suicide by drowning whilst in a state of temporary insanity.

So are you assuming the E S Curtis with the Sherwood Foresters is Edward George? Do you have Edward on the 1911 census?

Hi all Austin Q Yes the family was very large and from the Somerset area but the problem I keep getting is that they keep changing the names around Edwin used George as his middle name ,I have checked the CWGC and cannot find anything there I have also been to the church at Newton St Loe where ( Fred )Curtis is mentioned as serving in WW1 I did not give you enough info sorry
