My Grans birth in 1886 Kingston Surry. Birth name Charlotte Ethel GILES.
I have her file from Dr Barnado Homes. Charlotte was sent to Canada aged 9 as a home child and given her mothers maiden name of Upfield.
Just in case your interested.....Barnados sent me a photo of her aged 6. FANTASTIC!

Although her Mother wasn't really married she pretended she was and put Fathers name as Herbert Charles GILES. and he was in the Army. East Surry Regiment. She told Barnado homes that he was in India. Birth certs says he was a groom.

I found out that the East Surry Regiment was in fact in India between 1881 and 1903. I also found that the East Surry Regiment barracks were in Kingston Surry.

Is there any way I can find this man in that regiment?

ps...Her Mother Ellen was born 1860.

You could try to contact the Surrey Regimental Museum to see if they have any photographs with names - although I wouldn't hold out much hope that they have.
