Just a quick update about my O'Hagan's.
Margaret O'Hagan b 1900 married James Readie in 1937 Margaret died 1952 in Cathcart, Glasgow. James Readie remarried a Catherine O'Hagan in Camlachie district in 1953.
James died 1961 in Cathcart, showing 3 marriages, 1 to Sophie, looks like Menon and the other 2 to the O'Hagan girls.
The marriage to Catherine is too soon to view so will have to send off for it to verify her parents.
I have looked for a death for Catherine O'Hagan but they are too soon to view.

Thank you Austin,
Just found them about an hour ago on the 2nd page of the census. I think I have found a marriage for them but both to the same chap. I will have to go back and keep searching, but I just get so far on Scotlandspeople and the error 503 message pops up,
regards jean
sorry that should read marriage for Catherine and Margaret

You are quite right Austin, just giong through all the information again. I think the 1930 e.r. must be another daughter, but on the 1933 there is a Mrs Elizabeth o'Hagan perhaps that is the one married John.
Can't wait for SP to get started up again so I can search for the births.

Jean- you said that John and Elizabeth didn't marry until 1932, but there is an Elizabeth Hagan (no Mrs to indicate she was married) on the 1930 electoral register at Stevenson Street.
Perhaps the other child was Elizabeth?

Perhaps Chris, Can't really find out until Scotlandspeople is up and running again then I can check the next page on the 1911 census for other children's names.
I don't think he can be a son of John who married Elizabeth King as they did not marry until 1932 and the record you show shows that this Hugh would have been born 1922. but you never know he may be connected in some way.

I think you are right Austin, Looks like Catherine is another daughter, if my memory serves me right, Hugh, the father's mother's name was Catherine nee Devlin.

So it looks as though Catherine was another child- she must have been born around 1908/9 to appear on the 1930 electoral register. So just one more child to find (Hopefully Hugh).

Thanks once again Austin, Son John married Elizabeth King in 1932 and Ellen , the mother died in Bain Street in 1940.
I think Kirk street was renamed Stevenson street at some point.

I've just had a quick look on the electoral registers on Ancestry- I don't see any other children listed with Hugh & Helen (Ellen), at Kirk Street apart from John & Margaret.
In 1928 they move from Kirk Street to Stevenson Street. Margaret is still with them, but no other O'Hagans of voting age.
This is them in 1929:
1929: Stevenson Street: O'Hagan Mrs Helen O'Hagan Hugh O'Hagan John O'Hagan Margaret -------------------------------------
Possibly more children listed in 1930:
Stevenson Street: O'Hagan Catherine O'Hagan Elizabeth O'Hagan Mrs Helen O'Hagan Hugh O'Hagan John O'Hagan Margaret -------------------------------------------------
Or perhaps Elizabeth was a daughter-in-law as this is them in 1933:
Stevenson Street: O'Hagan Catherine O'Hagan Mrs Elizabeth O'Hagan Mrs Helen O'Hagan Hugh O'Hagan John O'Hagan Margaret ---------------------------------------------
It looks as though Helen has moved to Bain Street by 1938- living with Catherine. There are other people at the same address, but no other O'Hagans.

Thank you AustinQ,
that's exactly what I was thinking and thought the Hugh b 1896 would be a son to Hugh and Ellen . the Hugh you found b 1902 looks a good bet. Thank you Chris, I did find his death on the site you mentioned.
thank you to all , I will have to wait until Scotlandspeople is up and running again.
I don't have access to Ancestry so will have to wait until I can visit the NA.

I know we're still waiting for Scotland's People- so just throwing out ideas.
Looking at traditional naming patterns for Scotland, the third born son is usually named after the father.
If correct that would mean that if there was a son Hugh he may have been born after 1901.
Possible:
Britain, merchant seamen, 1918-1941 First name(s) Hugh Last name O'Hagan Event year 1918 Birth 04 May 1902 Birth place Glasgow Birth county/country Lanarkshire Identity certificate number 495315 Card type CR10 Archive The National Archives Series BT350 Date range 1918-1921
Unfortunately, no father named on the card- although there is a photo of him.

Yes this is the family in 1901.
On the 1911 I have just Patrick and his parents aged 16 occupation Barber, he died in 1918 serving in the army. John and Margaret must be on the next page as the family are right at the bottom of the 1st page. I have traced John and Margaret's marriages and deaths so know they survived after 1911.

Is this your O'Hagan family in 1901?
Which children do you have in 1911?
Unfortunately Scotland's People is down at the moment until next week, so can't look up possible marriage - when were Hugh and Ellen married.
1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription 31, Kirk Street, Glasgow, Calton, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Thank you very much Kath and greyghost,
I can't seem to find a connection to my O'Hagans as yet, I was hoping his father would be Hugh b 1864 as on the 1911 Scottish census it shows my Hugh and wife Ellen to have 6 children , 5 still alive but I can only account for 3 .
