The Silver War badge was awarded to all of those military personnel who had served at home or overseas during the war, and who had been discharged from the army under King’s Regulations. Expiry of a normal term of engagement did not count.
The following men by the name Cato were awarded the SWB.
Name Badge Number Regiment Regimental Number A. E. Cato B92516 Rifle Brigade S/17250 Alfred Geo Cato B338383 Labour Corps 505999 Arthur L. Cato B176914 London Regiment 678258 Arthur Wm Cato B25073 Royal Warwickshire Regiment 35251 Charles Cato 411355 Depot. The King's Liverpool Regiment (R) 18500 E. P. Cato 2781 East Yorkshire Regiment Henry Cato B342835 Labour Corps 435320 Hugh Cato B87966 British West Indies Regiment 581 John Jesse Cato B213656 Somerset Light Infantry 30545 T. F. Cato 152474 Northamptonshire Regiment 25618 Walter Sidney Cato 285870 London Regiment 471281
As Arthur is believed to have fought on the Somme (Jul-Nov 1918) his term of engagement may have expired while he was still recovering. .....
If the Canadian census is correct, perhaps we should be looking for Canadian military records instead of British?

Thanking you both for your findings.
Very helpful. I now know via an E-mail that Arthur suffered Post Traumatic Stress and lived apart from Arabella. She went to live in Canada with her daughter.
I suppose the 1911 may give up more little snippets too !!
The 1939 throws up some very interesting questions.
Once again thank you. Nala. :-)

I can't see any service records for him on Findmypast but 70% of WW1 records were destroyed in a fire so they may not have survived.
The lady he married was called Arabella Black. This is the reference for the marriage certificate:-
