If these are correct then it was probably the second world war he served in. As DetEcTive has already said his service records will still be with the MOD. Check out the link already given to see how to apply for them.

When you mention 'The War', are we to assume it was WW2? Bear in mind that people who served with him would be in their 90s
You say 12th Btn...but which Regiment??? If he fought in a more recent conflict, try Forcesreunited or look for the appropriate regimental association.

Its unlikely that any one will stumble on the post and recognise the name, but you never know. Make sure that even if you allow your sub to lapse, the email address linked to GR is the most up-to-date one even if you change internet suppliers. Anyone who knew of him can click on your name to send a message.

His military records will be with the MOD - you can apply for a copy at a cost of £30. They'd be free if his widow can sign the form.

Hi, my late dad served in the 12th btn, is there anyone can remember him like most men he never talked abt the war so we know nothing of where his regiment were. His name was Stanley Tarn and from the northeast. Thanks. Marian
