Find my past hold
"Prisoners Of War 1939-1945 - British Army Held In German Territories" , but the National Archives site says "Prisoners of war: selected records 1715-1945"
http://tiny.cc/5j9e2x

For some reason I can't find anything for him, even by only using the surname and yob +/-1 :-S

Just to clarify, did you make a typo and 'onedwin' should be 'online'?

If no one else can find the POW records, the only alternative is to order his full records from the MOD at a cost of £30

WW2 records are not in the public domain

Which regiment was he in, and which Stalag? That might help if the number you have are incorrect.

Managed to find 45 records for J Parker, but it doesn't give ages, or an image. Instead, each transcription gives an address to write to. I'm sure I've seen copies of de-briefs. May be they were Canadian POW's?

Unless you/we can find a local newpaper report, you have to apply for his records.

WW2 may be 'history' but there are still some veterans still alive. To protect their privacy, very little is on-line. At some time in the future, their records may be released, but possibly not for another 25 years. This is to comply with the 100 years closure 'rules'.

If you know where his family's home town was, we may be able to find something in the British Newspaper Archive. It's probably a remote possibility.

http://www.fallingbostelmilitarymuseum.de/stalag/stalag.htm

gives a brief history of Fallingbostel - it appears that it was 'liberated' on 16th April 1945. there is, however, a note that *It should of course be remembered that most of the able-bodied –fit pows had marched northeast to the Elbe before the liberation on the 16thAPRIL*

As the war in Europe wasn't officially over until 2 September 1945 and most of the continent in chaos, it probably took a few weeks after the Camp was Liberated before Edwin was returned to England

He may have completed a questionnaire. Copies of these are at the National Archives - not online

If you go onto the veterans website and print off the service access request and next of kin forms, and send them to the address in Glasgow provided further up. Also send a copy of the death certificate ( not the original as you won't get it back ). Cost is £30
