Pte B Prior ICAMBS WW1

Jeffrey Report 8 Apr 2015 14:59

A friend has an ID tag (?"unofficial") which he picked up at the edge of a newly ploughed field "somewhere near Ypres" about 30 years ago. It is oval, silver, on a ferrous metal bracelet and marked PTE B PRIOR 3477 ICAMBS C E.

I have not found any similar record on the Commonwealth War Graves site, nor on the Cambridgeshire Roll of Honour, which I hope means he survived the war.

Any ideas where we can find his first name, or any other info which might identify him??

Many thanks, knowledgeable ones.

Phyl

This seems to be the family- unsure why the name Prior was used. Address matches listing in Newspaper- also a tree on ancestry has some of the children listed as Prior. I don't have time to look today- if no one else has answers, I'll take another look tomorrow.

Maddie, I'm not sure the Bertie Prior that married Elizabeth Long is the correct chap

This is our Bertie's birth- see also baptism above:
Birth reg:
Name: Bertie Prior
Registration Year: 1899
Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration district: Cambridge
Inferred County: Cambridgeshire
Volume: 3b

the Bertie that married Elizabeth Long in North Witchford could be this one- which ties in better with the death/ probate records you've put up:

Name: Bertie Prior
Registration Year: 1901
Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district: North Witchford
Inferred County: Cambridgeshire
Volume: 3b
