Thank you for your help. On telling your findings to an elderly aunt, she now tells me he was in the Royal Engineer Special Brigade, so that ties in with the info you messaged me. as a bit of a novice with military records, do you know what the other two abbreviated listings stand for? RR Cav and Training Res Are the 3 numbers for each listing? Does it mean he was part of three different regiments/corps? Many thanks |

Hello Sheryl, it sounds like you're hitting the same brick wall that many of us do when it comes to WW1 records as around 70% of those records were destroyed by fire during WW2. |

Can anyone HELP PLEASE! I am trying to find any military info about a Joseph (Joe) Williamson DOB 16/05/1896. He was sent to France on 24/10/1917 in the Royal Engineer Special Brigade Pioneer. I have hit a brick wall with his records. He lived at 93 Swanlow Lane, Winsford, Cheshire when sent to war. His parents were Moses and Louisa and he was married to Winifred. He died on 27/12/1989 in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Any advice on how to advance my search would be appreciated. |
