Thanks for your responses that confirm what I have already discovered. Any further research seams pointless if the records have been destroyed.

At least 70% of WW1 service records were destroyed during WW2 bombing.

Other than the medals cards as already posted above, unless the WW1 service is included in the collection Glitterbaby found, it is possible that his are amongst them.

I can find George as a private in the boar war and being killed in action in 1916 as a sergeant. Where can I find his service records? He must have been a corpora at some time during his time in the Middlesex Reg..
