I have looked on the veterans site and the Commonwealth War Graves site and found no records so i think i will pay the money and apply to the Ministry of Defence for the service record.

As he was still in the Army in 1922, his service record might still be with the MOD. The link below will give you info on how to get it.

Chris, now i can see on the medal card it has hand written BW Med and V Med so i know this is the British War Medal and the Victory Medal you mentioned above. I am going to have a look at the service record to see what else i can find.
Potty, thank you for the recorded death details, Henry was born in 1897 in Barnet.
Again i will try and find out more about his duties whilst in the Royal Tank Corps from 1912 from the service records.
I will let you know how i get on!

Found some more details for him on FMP under the Royal Tank Corps:

Joined at Dover on 31/12/1912, age 15yr25 days; musician; b Barnet, Middelesex; had a brother, Bertie, who was in the KRR (Kings Royal Rifles?); was awarded the British War Medal and died as the result of a riding accident in Meerut on 2/03/1922.

When & where was he born? If he joined the Army before WW1 there might be a record on FMP.

You need the Service Record to help, but sadly, not all survived.

Thank you for your replies.
Chris, you are correct with regard to the details you gave me.
The medal card details IND.GS.AFGN.NWFF.1919 which i know is the unit that served in the afghan/Anglo conflict.
Do you know if it is possible that more than one medal ie different conflicts are on the same medal card? My Great Uncle joined the army when he was 15 years old so i feel he must have been involved in other conflicts prior to 1919. There are other entries but i am not sure if they are related to the Afghan one or seperate.

Not sure what you mean by medal certificate. What does it say? What is the reference from the National Archives site for the record?

I am thrilled that i have managed to find through the national archives what i believe is the medal certificate for my great uncle Henry Charles Williams who served in the army around 1920 in India. Can anybody please suggest who i could ask to decipher it as a lot of the information is difficult to understand. Many thanks.
