Be prepared for a fee of £30 and many months of waiting until the records land on your doormat. It could be that his WW1 service papers are with his main file - that is a suggestion, not definate knowledge!

If he was in the army after 1920, his service record is not a public document - he, or his widow, can access it, and I think their kids can if both parents are dead.

I'm sure someone can give you links to more precise access info, if you need it.

Thank you both for your help and yes I did get the image!.......this is about all I can find of him!, even though he joined around 1910/11 and was in India with this regt on the 1911 census. He apparently continued in the Regt after the war and was back in India where at least one of his daughters was born in 1924.
I was hoping to get something at least from before 1914! I guess his WW1 records were one of the burnt ones

Hi thanks I don't understand as I found it on Findmypast, as Charles William Butler army number 10443
Pte 1st Notts and Derbyshire Regt
Cpl 1st Notts and Derbyshire Regt
for the medal card.
The person who found this on the National archives said it was also on Ancestry.
I don't know if he was awarded a silver war badge, just did see a Charles William Butler and he was in hospital in 1917.

The closest for the Medal cards is

Regimental Number: 127, 127

It does have a SWB reference 112? The last number is very feint. It could be an 8

The SWB was the only award listed.

Hi, I have checked these on the search on Ancestry and may of found the ones I am looking for, but cannot access them
Charles William Butler army number 10443.
I saw the record on findmypast for the medals but it doesn't show the image or give information about the medals.
I put in this info on the silver war badge but it only showed a name, he was in hospital in 1917 so it may be him
would anyone be able to send me the images?
