I am trying to find my great-great grandad who fough in World War 1. the only details i have for him are his service number, rank, name and unit and so far i have had no luck as i don't know where to look. even looking for him on genes has proved fruitless.

Welcome to the boards Michaella.

Alot of the first World War records were destroyed, but post a few details about your GG grandfather ..ie. Name, birth year and place etc.and see if anyone can help find him.

Hi Michaelia,

Welcome

Also his service number and unit would be most helpful. Many members on GR also subscribe to other sites which contain copies of military records (those that weren't destroyed.

On the site I subscribe to, I have found the full service record for a great uncle who fought in WW1, for another great uncle, there is only a scrap of record left
