on his artillery papers just before the bit were he is told he is unfit for war, we think we might have sorted it, as a transport medal BWTS medal as he was a driver, what I thought was a 70 could well be TS a few people have told me, the writing is so bad and it fits with his job. thanks

Where did you see the BW70 medal reference?

Frances Report 1 Sep 2014 18:16

No I haven't as yet, I know there are brilliant people on here that can read funny writing on these old records, so I thought I would ask first.

Bit late in the day, sorry

But have you considered contacting the RAF museum at Hendon. They too have a lot of records for the Royal Flying Corp.

I know you have all helped me with my uncle and have now got his ww1 records but when he went to the artillery from the raf it shows a medal it looks like BW 70 was there ever such a number for a medal it looks like a doctor has written it?

I have just got the Sept. edition of the WDYTYA magazine and there is an article in there about the RAF in WW1. May give you some interesting background, and also it lists other sites to try.

thank you Im sorry about the confusion hes been a real pain to try and find, he died long before I was born and you know how tales go in families and my lot lost touch with him so the story about him being killed in Egypt just fudges over it once again thanks. Will see if I can find rellies of Hilda Neale now

Frances, the Royal Artillery attestation is after he was in the air force (which is clearly mentioned on that attestation).

If he did die during WW2 whilst serving then you should be able to find his death on CWGC http://www.cwgc.org/

Looks like he married just using his middle name:

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Sep 1922
GOODALL Edward Neale Fareham 2b 1523
NEALE Hilda M Goodall Fareham 2b 1523

Oh boy thank you for this it seems he did marry, and from what family stories go he died in the second war supposedly out in Egypt, but thats another tale at least I can go forward now
kind regards

On the image for the Royal Artillery Attestation transcription posted above he was a machine hand and was 22 years and 4 months old when he attested 7 Jan 1921.

He was born Edmonton, Middlesex and was married to Hilda May Neale. They married 3 Sep 1922 in Fareham. He was discharged 24 Sep 1923 at Dover as physically unfit. His address on discharge was the Bell Hotel, Thetford, Norfolk.

It mentions that he formerly served in RAF, no 65964 and was demobilised from that unit 29 March 1920.

You can have a look here:-

If you want to give his name I can have a look on Findmypast although a lot of WW1 records were destroyed in a fire.
