The Tynemouth World War 1 Commemoration Project has over the last 4 years built up an individual biography for over 1700 men from the borough who gave their lives.

Those biographies are now available to search and view on an interactive database.

The database is available on http://www.tynemouthworldwarone.org/index.html where there is also information about forthcoming events.

I'm proud to have been a volunteer researcher.

Hi Marie,

Well done you, where do you find the time?

Tried the link, (I was looking for someone for another thread who's been dodging me) but the link won't work. Anyone else having problems with it?

EDIT: it works if i google search for the project :-)

Flip, I was obviously in numpty mode when I posted that and had put a comma after the url.

We're now hoping to extend the project to cover the whole of North Tyneside.

This collection is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of photos and names of soldiers from the Gateshead area in World War I. Most of the clippings are portrait photographs of individual soldiers with information about their unit, rank and condition, such as wounded, killed or missing. The scrapbook also includes articles about memorial and awards given and there are also a few group photos
