Thank you for all your efforts but I'm now quite sure after looking on the Irish 1901 Census that my Mansfields in Tipperary are the ones at house 1 Carrowclough (PO). My grandmother was Catherine (aged 10) she had a few more older siblings who are not on the Census including a Martin who died in WW1 (so I've been led to believe) It now looks doubtfulthat this is true as there is no record of him.

Is this 'your' Martin Mansfield?
If so, he's older than you led us to believe:
Name: Martin Mansfield Gender: Male Christening Date: Christening Place: Birth Date: 02 Sep 1878<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Birthplace: Mullinshone, Tipperary, Ireland<<<<<<<<<<< Death Date: Name Note: Race: Father's Name: James Mansfield<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Father's Birthplace: Father's Age: Mother's Name: Margaret Costello Mansfield<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mother's Birthplace: Mother's Age: Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C00555-6 System Origin: Ireland-EASy GS Film number: 256012 Reference ID: v 4-2 p 566
That Martin in census 1901:
Residents of a house 20 in Chapel Street (Mullinahone, Tipperary)
Surname Forename Age Sex Relation to head Religion Birthplace Occupation Literacy Irish Language Marital Status Specified Illnesses
Mansfield James 60 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic Tipperary Labourer Read and write - Married - Mansfield Margret 50 Female Wife Roman Catholic Tipperary Labourer Read and write - Married - Mansfield Martin 21 Male Son Roman Catholic Tipperary Labourer Read and write - Not Married -<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mansfield James 20 Male Son Roman Catholic Tipperary Labourer Read and write - Not Married - Mansfield Mary 18 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Tipperary Scholar Read and write - Not Married - Mansfield William 13 Male Son Roman Catholic Tipperary Scholar Read and write - Not Married - Mansfield Philip 12 Male Son Roman Catholic Tipperary Scholar Read and write - Not Married -
Can't spot him in the Irish Census in 1911, he'd presumably left home:
Residents of a house 20 in Chapel Street (Mullinahone, Tipperary)
Surname Forename Age Sex Relation to head Religion
Mansfield James 72 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic Mansfield Margaret 64 Female Wife Roman Catholic Mansfield Philip 22 Male Son Roman Catholic

That's why i checked out Irish Soldiers wills, as often they just left everything to their mother
http://soldierswills.nationalarchives.ie/search/sw/about.jsp
but unfortunately didn't come up with a match.
I strongly suspect the CWGC chap , the one Marie Celeste and I found was born Clonmel, is the one born Clonmel 1897, as he was still in Clonmel in 1911 with his parents:
Residents of a house 13 in Davis Road (Clonmel East Urban, Tipperary)
Surname Forename Age Sex Relation to head Religion
Mansfield Mary an 45 Female Head of Family Roman Catholic Mansfield James 21 Male Son Roman Catholic Mansfield Thomas 19 Male Son Roman Catholic Mansfield Kate - Female Daughter Roman Catholic Mansfield Martin 14 Male Son Roman Catholic<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mansfield Patrick 11 Male Son Roman Catholic

Hi Marie Celeste and Kucinta, the only way i'm going to identify this man as a relatine is from records containing names of his parents/siblings, I'm guessing that this info is not recorded anywhere. Many Thanks for all your help anyway.

I can't see an entry for him on Irish Soldier's wills.

Can anybody please help me establish if this Soldier was my great uncle please? He's name was Martin Mansfield, born about 1884 from Tipperary, he's parents were James and Margaret. Sorry, I do not have much more info on him, I have seen a Martin Mansfield on the CWWG but it has no info regarding his parents on the Certificate. Thanks for your help.
