Please could some help. My father in law sadly passed away yesterday aged 82 and we are just compiling some information for his funeral. He was a very private man and although we know he spent some time in the army doing his national service we do not know anything else.

I was wondering if someone with access to military records could find information for us in where he was stationed and when etc we would be really grateful. His details are William E Sharp Dob 30.09.1931 and lived in the Birmingham area. He would have been in the arm c1949

Thanking you in advance, Kerry x

There are no records held on line - they are held in Glagow. This site gives details of how to apply:

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

They cost £30 and there can be a long wait after application before they are received.
