Hi john storey known as Jackie was killed in Malaysia in 1950 shot in the jungle do you know him Thanks :-)
|
It's highly unlikely that anyone reading the boards will have known him, but stranger things have happened. Assuming he was undertaking his National Service, his contemporaries are likely to be in their 80s now.
If you wanted his service records they'd still be with the MOD and can be purchased in certain circumstances for £30 after a rather long wait.

Can you help John storey was my uncle died in 1950 Second World War His father Stephen born 1906 died 1991 in trimdon I have found the 1911 censor saying he had a brother Walter and a sister Isabella, but I cannot find his other brother I think Jim and his other sister jenny can you help please Thanks Margaret :-(

This could be the birth of Stephen's brother James:-
Name: STOREY, James Registration district: Sedgefield County: Durham Year of registration: 1914 Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Mother's maiden name: Bumfrey Volume no: 10A Page no: 355
The 1911 census that you mention says the parents of Stephen were James and Elizabeth who had been married about 9 years. This looks like their marriage:-
Name: STOREY, James Gulliver Registration district: Easington County: Durham Year of registration: 1901 Quarter of registration: Apr-May-Jun Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912 Volume no: 10A Page no: 803
MarriageFinder: James Gulliver Storey married one of the following people:
BUMFREY, Elizabeth Ann<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< WILLIAMS, Elizabeth FISHBURN, George
Possible birth of the daughter you were looking for:-
Name: STOREY, Jennie Registration district: Sedgefield County: Durham Year of registration: 1923 Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Mother's maiden name: Bumfrey Volume no: 10A Page no: 341
and also this one:-
Name: STOREY, Maud M Registration district: Sedgefield County: Durham Year of registration: 1916 Quarter of registration: Apr-May-Jun Mother's maiden name: Bumfrey Volume no: 10A Page no: 339
I don't have any connection to these people. Just looking them up for you.
If John Storey died in 1950 then it wasn't during WW2 as this ended in 1945.

I think Isabella may have died before 1901 and William married Jane ? who had a son, William born 1889. He is described as stepson in 1901.

Thank you so much Got a little confused today so visited an elderly relative and he said My grandad Stephen storey parents are Elizabeth Ann Bumfrey (1881 I think) and James Gulliver Storey (I think 1880, and apparently he won 3 medals in the First World War, which I cannot get info), there children are me grandad Stephen 1906 trimdon), Walter 1909, Jenny 1923, Isabella 1903, James (Jim I think 1914/1920 although I cannot find him).
The confusion comes because iky storey ( brother of James gulliver storey above) Married Maude bumfrey (sister of Elizabeth bumfrey above)
CAN YOU HELP ME WITH ABOVE PLEASE margaret :-(
|
I've looked on Findmypast and FreeBMD and there is no record of a Maude Bumfrey marrying a Storey.
Many of the records from WW1 were destroyed in a fire so James's records may have been amongst them.

We probably cross posted - see reply timed at 4 Feb 2014 19:14.
Make an internet search for British WW1 medals.

Acording to Detective's post ref medals he doesn't appear to have been awarded any medals for Gallantry, (That doesn't meen he wasn't a hero) Just that his efforts were not noted in the right quarters?
The qualification for his medals are below
Authorised in 1918, the 1914/15 Star was awarded to personnel who saw service in France and Flanders from 23 November 1914 to 31 December 1915, and to personnel who saw service in any other operational theatre from 5 August 1914 to 31 December 1915.
The British War Medal 1914-1920, authorised in 1919, was awarded to eligible service personnel and civilians. Qualifications for the award varied slightly according to service. The basic requirement for army personnel and civilians was that they either entered a theatre of war, or rendered approved service overseas between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. Service in Russia in 1919 and 1920 also qualified for the award.
The Victory Medal 1914-1919 was also authorised in 1919 and was awarded to all eligible personnel who served on the establishment of a unit in an operational theatre

Hi John storey, above my uncle, great grandparents are James bumfrey born 1843 in Norfolk, his wife is Elizabeth from Yorkshire and on the census they are living at north moor farm trimdon, how can I find her maiden name Thanks Margaret
|
Look on the census to determine when they could have married, Based on the first child born search marriages from that date back 3 to 5 years for a marriage, The best way to find her maiden name is to buy one of the childrens birth certificates,
Roy
