could someone please look to see if there is any record of service for my g grandfather please.
I do not have any army numbers for him but will post what I have,

john Edward jones born 1874,i have found on the census a few places of birth,
1881---crewe.
1891---Wrexham.
1901--- cannot find him.
1911---wales.
he lived in Oldham Lancashire from a young age,
in ww1 he was in the 24th Manchester battalion,(Oldham pals.).
he died in 1929,i would love to know if he was at war at the time of the 1901 census.
I hope this makes some sense ,any info for the missing time would be brilliant.

Unfortunately 70% of WW1 records were burnt in WW2, lets hope we can find his though.

his ww1 records were destroyed, hard as I have tried nothing comes up.
I can see his medal record & were the regiment went but nothing else.
he is the one at the top of the list if memory serves me right,the 15054 is the medal one

sorry 15054 was his roll number..

Martynsue, looking at that medal card, 15054 wasn't his roll no. It looks as if he served in two different regiments. The top line gives RE, Sapper, Regt No 304315 and the second Manchester Regt, Regt No 15054. ~The Roll No and Page are given further down the card.

I know the 24th Manchester joined up with another reg during ww1,maybe this is were it came from as the 24th were volunteers,
having probs with genes at the moment so I hope this joins the thread.
