Soldier in 1866

My Great-Great Uncle on his wedding registration listed his prof as a soldier. Any ideas on how to confirm or trace this 'fact' ?. |

His profession will be shown on the 1871 census and also on the birth certificates of any children. If you are lucky, the latter may also show the regiment. |

Have you looked for him on the 1861 and 1871 census records to see what was indicated as his occupation at those times? |

Thanks to all. I found my g-g Uncle in genes-re Armed Forces. He signed up in 1857, as a Private , stationed in Bermuda,1861. He was discharged in 1878 as a Sgt. Major, Dorsetshire Reg. 39th & 54th Foot. :-) |
