Im trying to locate the army records of my great grandfather Louis George Stephens

We believe he enlisted in 1918-20 into the Gloucestershire regiment, and served with the 2nd battalion and 9th infantry. We have some dates and the places he went to, but not his service number.

I have tried searching on the Gloucestershire regiment website, forces reunited, forces war records and GR, with no luck.

I have read a thread on here saying thar the interwar records aren't easy to find, but I just wanted to check if there is anywheren else I could try to obtain them?!
Is it a case of applying to the MOD, would they have them? How do I go about finding his service number?

So info about him: born dec 1904 in kemply, gloucester, parents are George John Stephens and Martha Stephens nee forty

Any information, tips or advice are greatly received and many thanks in advance!

Becky

You will have to apply to the MOD , records of soldiers who served after 1920 are still held by them, nothing in the public domain.

Have a look at the link I have given it explains all, it may not be totally necessary to provide his number although it would have been useful.

Link to the Veterans Agency

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

But to add these records can take as long as 9 months to obtain them, and will cost £30-00.

George

PS just in case ive looked at the military records Ancestry & FMP but nothing shows for his name
