Thank you for your reply. I should have said I will look for my grandfathers service papers.
My grandparents told me and then gave me as much info as they good. My great Aunt, sister of my grandfather had some wonderful original papers which I loved having, but one day my mother said it was silly keep them and put in the fire. I only have about 6 now!
I think this is a good place to follow so I hope to be back.

Bridget, I don't think you will find any service records on Forces Reunited. The only WW1 records available are on Ancestry or FindMyPast and there are no service records for after 1920 anywhere on line although FindMyPast does have some discharge records for men who left the Army in the 1920s.

This is the first time I have seen this thread and think it is a Splended. Idea.
I have only come back to Genes because I was feed up with Anc and no extras as this.
I will look up my grandfathers papers and my uncles, I,also have a son in the Army he went through Sandherst and has been in many place and some people will remember me being very worried .

You missed my father in law by a couple of years. :-)

He did his NS there from the end of 1945 to 1948 having been dragged kicking and screaming into the Service. He chose to become a Medical Orderly

As far as I can remember, he spent time in Changi while the Japenese POW's were there. Later he was posted out into the Jungle where he and one other Oderly were more or less autominous. Beside the minor injuries, he had to search of lying water were the Mosquito sources of Malaria could breed. When he had to treat the MO for leg injuries (he'd run his vehicle off the road) the MO arranged for a radio to be salvaged from one of the aircraft so they had some form of enertainment
