If you feel the 1942 marriage is worth looking into, the cert would give you that Bert's age and father's name, so that you would know if he was the man born in 1920 or not.
Otherwise, I can't think of any way you could find out if Bert 1920 is your grandfather or not - unless any elderly family member recognises any of the details re his parents

Just a suggestion -
Perhaps Bert's name was actually Bert ??
Births Sep 1920 (>99%) Ward Bert Tildesley Stourbridge 6c 21
Parents' marriage ??
Marriages Mar 1908 (>99%) TILDESLEY Lilian Mary Kidderminster 6c 246 TILDESLEY Lilian May Kidderminster 6c 246 WARD Albert Bert Kidderminster 6c 246
Bert Ward Sr in the 1939 England and Wales Register Name: Bert Ward Sr Gender: Male Marital status: Married Birth Date: 1 Dec 1885 Residence Year: 1939 Address: 21 Great Combow Residence Place: Halesowen, Worcestershire, England Occupation: General Labourer- Road Works Line Number: 28 Schedule Number: 113 Sub Schedule Number: 1 Enumeration District: QJGA Borough: Halesowen Registration district: 373/1/27. Inferred Spouse: Lillian M Ward Household Members: Name Bert Ward Lillian M Ward [and one closed record with them - presumably Bert junior]
Only two Bert Wards with no middle initial on ERs - East Lothian and Glamorgan - but only in 2002.
A Bert Ward married an Annie Irish in Bromsgove in 1942 - no idea if that's the same person or not.
EDIT: Maybe not - Ancestry suggests this is that Annie (Amy ?) in 1939:
Amy M Irish in the 1939 England and Wales Register Name: Amy M Irish Gender: Female Marital status: Widow Birth Date: 15 Sep 1872 Residence Year: 1939 Address: Lyndale Residence Place: Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England Occupation: Unpaid Domestic Duties Line Number: 27 Schedule Number: 189 Sub Schedule Number: 1 Enumeration District: QJBR Borough: Bromsgrove Household Members: Name Amy M Irish Alfred Lorkett
So possibly her death:
Deaths Sep 1954 (>99%) WARD Amy M 70 Birmingham 9c 179
If so - that 1942 marriage is unlikely to be that of the Bert born 1920.

Are there any aunts, uncles , cousins or old family friends who might know some information that will help.?
Your post suggests that others in the Northfield area knew of the link between Bert and your family.

Yes he was born 1946 mom was born 1947 I always mix them up Ive tried all sorts of records but I have no more information on him.

Your father was actually born a year earlier than you thought
Births Dec 1946 (>99%) Deeley Robert J Deeley Birmingham 9c 996

Sorry to hear that Jayne, but I hope you appreciate why I posted the warning.
I would say your chances of identifying 'Bert' are not good, as you don't have any idea of birth year, or his actual forename.
Was he already married when your grandmother had his child?

Please remove your father's DoB unless he is deceased.

Hi, can anyone help me find my grandad - Bert Ward. Bert had a child with my nan Patricia Violet Maxwell (Deeley) (14/10/25) who is my dad Robert John Deeley (08/09/1947) Around that time my nan lived on Frankley Beeches Rd, Northfield Birmingham so I assume Bert wouldn't have lived too far from there. Bert played in a brass band apparently, but this is all we know of him. I don't know if his name is Bertram, Albert or Herbert. I don't know his age or date of birth but wouldn't be too much different to nans I would assume. We know he married and had child or children. I know my nan was approached by someone, one day whilst shopping in Northfield saying Bert had, had a heart attack but this was years ago. Nan would not tell us anymore about him. I realise that Bert may have deceased by now but I would like to find my family if possible.
Your help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards Jayne
