Find Living Relatives

Hi all,

I am struggling to find my paternal grandfather. I have been told he was called Alan Simpson and was an electrician in London. He had a son in 1963 called Leslie R H Simpson but never married the mother Sonia Noden. He has a very common name and with so little information I am not sure how to narrow the search down. I would very much like to know if he still alive and whether he had anymore children

No I'm afraid not. I have no contact with her and she was not willing to have a relationship with her son or his children unfortunately.

Does Leslie have his birth certificate? Seeing as he was registered under Simpson, his dad's name and address should be on there.

Hi I have been able to track down a birth certificate! The name is Alan Edward Simpson of 206 Wulfstone street W12. The street name might be wrong as it is hard to read!

In 1963 he's at that address with Hettie L, Terry, and Robert Simpson. (Name spelled Allan )

The original typed entry on the Index is the top one (page 348), then there's a handwritten note at the foot of the page, giving the page number 248.



I don't see his death definitively, Emily, but as his 1939 entry is visible, he is deceased.

An Allan E Simpson married in Hammersmith in 1975, to a Winifred, whose full name I won't post in case she's still living..

I don't see her birth with that name, nor a previous marriage.

Of course, I can't say if that's the right Allan, or some totally different person.
You'd have to see the marriage cert to see parents' names

A Winifred Simpson with the right middle initial, with an Allan E Simpson, were on the 2002 Tyne & Wear Electoral Roll.

Wow thank you so much! My Dad passed on his middle name of Robert to my brother. We never knew the significance.

My Dad always wondered about his Dad but was never able to find anything out. Thanks so much for this I really appreciate it

Allan had a younger sister, born early 1940s, who married in 1963 in Hammersmith.

Winifred's maiden name looks to be Little. She had a 3 children from her previous marriage.

There are a few Simpson/ Little births after 1975, in Birmingham, Lancaster, and Northumberland - but impossible to know if any were Allan & Winifred's.

Thank you that's great! I've been able to find that Allan was alive in 2016 but can't find anything after.

If you look at "Search all member trees" under "Search" at the top right of this page, and search for Allan Simpson, born 1937, there are two results.

One is presumably in your own tree, but the other tree owner is "Allan".
You could click on "Find out more" and send a message.
Or perhaps you are already aware of another Allan in the family, with a GR tree.

But be very tactful - whoever this is, he may not know anything about Sonia or her child (assuming he's related in some way) , and it could open a whole can of unwanted and upsetting worms..

Of course, no matter who this "Allan" is, he may not be able or willing to receive your message or to reply to it, for a great number of possible reasons. Illness, death, loss of interest in family research, a different email address - and so on.

GR never deletes a tree, so that might be the correct Allan's tree, but as he is deceased, he obviously won't be able to answer your message.
