My Father was born 1921 in Houghton County Durham. Sometimes he called himself Kenneth Alastair but he was born Alastair Kenneth. His son, my brother, was also called Kenneth Alastair and he died in 2009. If my father is dead I can't find him in the death registers. He would be in his nineties now if he is alive. I don't know where he was living between 1948 and 1972.Possibly the Sunderland area. At the end of the second world war he was stationed in Catterick until he was demobbed. After some years of wrangling with courts to get him to pay towards the up keep of his three children we never heard from him again until 1972. He contacted my mother via a solicitor to gain a divorce then. I was 17 yrs old at the time. He did not attend court for this divorce hearing as he had deserted my mother in 1948. Hope this helps Mandy

Hello Mandy, Welcome 'back'. This is really helpful. Can you just confirm the above Electoral Roll register, which states 2002 Kenneth Ure is living with Margarita - Son or father??
This would really help elimination.
Will keep looking in view of the above information. Ru

Mandy,
In this older thread you said he divorced in 1962 and married a Philippa in 1966. Is this not correct?

As there are no replies on the other thread, it's worth copying what it says
I am trying to trace my father Kenneth Alistair Ure who was born in 1921 in Houghton Le Spring County Durham. He left my mother and their family in 1948 and after divorcing my mother in 1962, eventually remarried a Philippa Swainson in 1966 in Wharfedale.I have not seen or heard from him since I was two years old. He would be about 90 years old and may be dead ,although he does not show up on any of the search records. Can any one help? Time is running out! He may be known as Alistair Kenneth Ure.

Thanks ErikaH - how sensible - I just did not think of that.
I find the father and son get in the way of direct connection for the thread holder. Ru

This is the marriage to which the poster refers
Marriages Jun 1966 (>99%)
SWAINSON PHILIPPA URE WHARFEDALE 2D 1267 URE KENNETH SWAINSON WHARFEDALE 2D 1267
The bride would have been 20 years younger than the groom, if he's the right man.
As the post was dated 2011, one would have thought that this marriage would have been checked out by now
There is no record on FMP of anyone named Philippa Ure

ErikaH I have been looking too for Philippa in both her maiden and married name and not been able to locate. It is strange there is no record, but there may be an easy answer - want to locate it now I have a bit between the teeth. Ru

Hi everyone Just to make it clear. I have already researched the marriage of Phillipa Swainson and it is not the same Kenneth Ure. The birth date is not the same and the parents on the marriage certificate are not his. The Kenneth Alastair born 1940 was my brother who died in 2009. In those days the son was often called after the father. My father's date of birth is 1921. I will also check with ancestry. Thanks for your help Mandy

We have now eliminated Philippa Swainson and confirmed the father and son had the first name of Kenneth.
So who did Alistair (Alastair) Kenneth or Kenneth Alistair (Alastair) marry in 1966 or after 1972. Will keep looking.
A challenge eh! Ru

Just to save time, have had a look at Travel, Migration etc and only one appeared to be a possible. Just to say have checked it out and used credits - no connection.

So, just to be clear - the Kenneth who is with Margarita is your brother? He was at the same address as already posted until 2009, which would fit.

Kenneth and Margarita are Mandy's parents. Mandy's brother was also Kenneth and lived with his mother Margarita but sadly passed away in 2009. This is not the father Kenneth Alistair or Alistair Kenneth Ure. It is confusing, but is confirmed as this above. Hard to get heads around and our families never thought about the complications of naming offspring after their parents.
Hope this helps. Ru

You will see earlier I asked if you knew your father's birth date. He was registered in the first quarter of 1921 but could have been born in 1920. Do you have his birth certificate?
Unfortunately, I believe this to be his death.
Name: Kenneth Alistair Gilroy Event Type: Death Registration Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep Registration Year: 1991 Registration District: Sunderland County: Durham Event Place: Sunderland, Durham, England Birth Date (available after June quarter 1969): 29 Nov 1920 Volume: 2 Page: 1742
I think he changed his name to his mother's maiden name so he could marry in 1965, because he was still married to Margarita.
Here's my reasoning:
I was looking at Ure births in Durham and found one in 1950 also registered under another surname. The mother had clearly been married before, and looking for this marriage I found her name married was Louisa Doneathy.
Only one Louisa Doneathy shows on FreeBMD and it's for a marriage to a Kenneth A Gilroy.
Marriages Sep 1965 DONEATHY LOUISA GILROY SUNDERLAND 1A 2341 GILROY KENNETH A DONEATHY SUNDERLAND 1A 2341
There is no obvious birth for this man.
Louisa had several children with her first husband. Some of their descendants are on Facebook.

Hi Rose, It did cross my mind yesterday that there was a remarriage before a divorce.
I just checked Wills and Probate, but nothing. I think this is excellent thinking on your part and a very likely answer.
Well done.
