Thank you one and all for info. James Deakin who married Winifred Linihan are indeed my
Father and Mother.
James who married Sarah Ann Kennedy, I believe to be my late Grandfather from Brum.Edith is a new
name to me, otherwise, Alice,Lucy and Bella were indeed my aunt's.
I wanted to trace any living relatives as he wanted his family in Brum to know what had happened to him.
He had a sister, also Sarah, who according to Census was older than him and worked as a clerk in
The jewellery quarter. He left home and maybe travelled with the circus to look after the horses.
There was a circus above the Hippodrome in Aston High Street.
.In Manchester he had his own horses and cart selling vegetables. He does give his occupation as Groom on his marriage certificate (Thanks for that)
I am puzzled he said his father was deceased and a timekeeper, my research shows he was a die-sinker!?
However, he enlisted in Manchester in the K.OS.B. regiment during the First World War,
sadly he was gassed and brought over to England where I believe,he died in Hospital in 1916.
I have tried to find out which hospital, but to no avail. He asked my Grandmother to let his
family in Birmingham know what had happened to him but unfortunately was unable to
give her their whereabouts and died .
Unfortunately, official records show he was born in Harpurhey, Manchester which is incorrect,
He enlisted when he was living there!
Does anyone know which Hospital He died in? Again official papers just say "home".
My late Father tried, unsuccessfully, to find the family, so I am
carrying on with the quest!

James Deakin (age 23) married Sarah Ann Kennedy (22) on March 31st 1902 at St Augustine, Newton Heath.

He claims his Father as William James Deakin, deceased, and that his father was a timekeeper.

Cannot see a death for a William J Deakin between 1877 and 1902 of appropriate age.

There are several James Deakins born around same time so you'll need to have some details of his father ( from marriage cert) to make sure you get the right one.

Who did he marry?

Have you looked in trees (under Search top of page) to see if anyone has him in their tree?
