They moved to canada around 1975. Divorced early 2000's and robert fied sometime after. Mary got in touch with me to ask if i could trace some of his friends in the Model Engineering hobby. Was doing fine but contact went dead Sept last year. Have mangedd to find out that she suffered a car accident and could well be confined to Wheelchair. She has also moved back to the UK to stay with her brother The only info i have are the names, rough dates as listed about and they lived in Windsor Ontario. I have tried marriage details on here for the UK...no trace! Death records in Canada ditto. so have hit a dead end. if anyone could give me a lead in Canada via any records i can start the search from their via ex neighbours etc
If you have any suggestions or sites that may help me would appreciate it as i would like to bring her up to date on what i have found
Thanks
Ron

The Canadian online phone book has 3 listings for a Mary Whitehead on Ontario. Unfortunately, there's no indication to say how current they are.
http://www.whitepages.ca/name/Mary-Whitehead/Ontario
The same applies for Robert Whitehead http://www.whitepages.ca/name/Robert-Whitehead/Ontario
|
Findmypast has 2 marriages listed for a Robert 1965 +/- 10
Robert Whitehead to a Mary W McGoldrick (1969) Robert G A Whitehead to a Mary Deeble (1972)
Could either of them be possible, or do you think they'd have been older/younger? In 1976 a Robert J Whitehead married a Mary E Eyden
If they married in Scotland, the registration would be on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/search-our-records
You do have to register first, but can search for free. There is one possibility, but when it comes to looking for likely births, the mother's maiden name isn't shown. That makes it more difficult to identify possible siblings
|
Where did they move from in the UK? How were you contacting Mary? Email, phone?

If you know her maiden name then your may be able to find siblings names then try the electoral rolls

Ancestry has Canadian phone directories up to 2002.
There are an R and a Robt Whitehead listed, but only to 1996/1997.
Do you know the street Mary lived on? Just in case it was one of the streets shown there and she remained at the same address after the divorce. (I won't put them here since the people may not be connected and may still live where those listings show.)
Canada411 does show one M in Windsor (it is unusual for a woman to list a full given name):
http://www.canada411.ca/search/?stype=si&what=whitehead&where=Windsor%2C+ON same listing at whitepages: http://www.whitepages.ca/name/M-Whitehead/Windsor-ON/tf9gbv3
That could be out of date, that is, it could possibly be Mary even if she has recently left that address.
There don't seem to be any recent real estate listings for that address. It is a modest single-family home that could be rented.
The big question for finding Mary is whether she had children, and since you don't mention, it seems probably not?

What is Mary's brother's name?

Hi Sorry for silence but have been on holiday Thanks for all the replies. I shall certainly use these to chase up. Unfortunately the conversations centred mostly around the loco he was building!!
From what she told me They emigrated after marriage exact dates were never given, as she was interested in what clubs he may have belonged to. They had divorced (early 2000's?)and Robert had since died again no specific dates They lived before going to Canada in the south of England, and there are several clubs he could have belonged to, (although many loco builders dont) I just didnt ask for any past details, I wrote to several clubs and got replies along the lines of,' name is familiar, but many members who may have known him have died/moved /left etc' , which is perfectly understandable after 30 odd years. I think she had a daughter and possibly a son,but not sure on him. Again with hindsight i should have asked but didnt think it was relevant .In fact the only people she regularly mentioned were two friends, A woman called M aya who had also emigrated to Canada from the Nottinghsm area and was widowed and in her 70's. I think Mary is in her mid/late 60's, and a neighbour called Dave about 60 or so!!
So Contact was on a weekly /fortnightly basis until Sept of last year when she said she had been hit by a car and broken her leg. The hospital wouldn't allow any laptops and she would get in touch when she got home. Last contact was they had 'found something else' and was going for tests. By a lucky Coincidence the godfather of my son also emigrated to Canada in the early 80's and we had lost contact until he contacted me on Facebook last Jan 2016, he lives in Toronto. So i got in touch with him and he put out some feelers and found a contact in Detroit who knew Robert. He remembered him, and also knew of a woman whom she had been in contact with and he offered the following
Mary had been hospitalised following the accident and from what this woman told him broke her hip and has to use a wheelchair. The tests Mary mentioned found cancer had reoccurred and. she had moved back to stay with her brother who lives either in or near Reading Berks earlier this year 2017.. I live in Bracknell just up the Road!!! She thought her single name was Ward. based on that i did contact 5 Wards in the Reading Area but no luck, and my limited knowledge of searching records appeared to have halted. The contact in Detroit hasnt been i touch for several weeks so it looks like nothing new from there.
The only way i can see of finding out anything is Can i search any divorce/Death records in Canada. which might give me a last known address.if they match any of the info that you have kindly offered armed with that i would write to a nearby address asking if they have any info.
I did contact a department in Windsor ON and they put me onto a local geneology society . I asked them id there were any records i could access and got the reply 'Never heard of her..cannot help' there was nothing on how to access records , just that brush off. Nice people the Canadians!!!!
I dont hold out much hope given the info from the States but i would like to get some closure on this. It is the not knowing that is a becoming an itch i cant reach, if you understand..
Bit like not being able to get a link between my GGGGrandfather and a person who could be a son by a previous marriage. Circumstantial evidence points to it being so, but as he was born in 1792 and the son born in 1817, and GGGGrandfather remarrying in 1826 and showing as a widower i can only surmise!!!!
Thanks for all your asssitance and i am truly sorry i cannot put any more info on here.I will continue with the above and if anything does transpire will let you all know
Again many thanks
Ron
