My Grandfather Joseph Greenhalgh and Aunt Ellen Hughes emigrated to Montreal Canada in 1958. Uncle Robert Hughes emigrated to Montreal Canada one year earlier.Looking for cousins Elizabeth & Drummond and any news of my Grandmother Ann Greenhalgh (born Dillon).
My Father was John Greenhalgh who became a naturalised South African and lived and passed away in East London, South Africa.

Welcome to the boards, Gavin.

I don't quite understand your post.
If Ellen and Robert are Joseph's children, why is their surname Hughes? Are they step-children?
What is the surname of Elizabeth and Drummond?

Did Ann emigrate as well?

ArgyllGran Report 21 Jun 2017 21:58

Is this your grandparents marriage?
If not, where did they live before emigration?

Joseph Greenhalgh
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916-2005
Name: Joseph Greenhalgh
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1918
Registration district: Bolton
Inferred County: Lancashire
Spouse: Amn Dillen
Volume Number: 8e
Page Number: 635

The original is rather blurred, but it should have been transcribed Dillon, not Dillen. The first name might be spelled Anne, rather than Ann.

for helpers' reference:

Joseph Greenhalgh
in the UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
Name: Joseph Greenhalgh (DOB 5/11/1894)
Gender: Male
Departure Date: 3 Apr 1958
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Destination Port: Montreal, Canada
Ship Name: Empress Of France
Shipping line: Canadian Pacific Railway
Master: S W Keay

Address: 72 Woodgate St., Bolton, Lancs
Occupation: Locomotive driver.

Travelling with Ellen Hughes, DOB 08/05/1920, address 17 The Parade, Parkgate, Wirral, Cheshire:
Ellen E Hughes and Robert Hughes, both born 1946 (won't put exact date in case they're still alive.

Ah, now I understand.
Hughes is Ellen senior's married surname, and Ellen E and Robert are her children.
I thought you meant that your aunt Ellen and uncle Robert were the twins.

So who are Elizabeth and Drummond?
Are they Ellen E and Robert D, known by their middle names?

Could this be Drummond? Month and year of birth are correct.

Re that Robert in Edinburgh in the link above -

Scotlands People shows three marriages for a Robert Drummond Hughes:
1951 in Cambusbarron, Stirling (obviously not your Drummond);
1989 in Stirling;
2007 in Edinburgh - that might be the Robert born 1946 in the link above..

The 1951 marriage will be that of a Robert Drummond Hughes born in Alloa in 1927. Also probably the 1989 Stirling marriage, because of geography. That Robert died in Stirling in 2002.

So the 2007 marriage looks like a possibility for the Robert born 1946.
Or possibly a son of the 1946 one, from a previous marriage.

Thank you for all this information. I am particularly pleased with the info about my Gran Ann Greenhalgh - I now know when she passed away. I have only met my Aunt Ellen and Uncle Bobby (Robert) Hughes and know that he travelled extensively as a Queen's Surveyor. It is possible that his son Robert Drummond returned from Canada to Scotland but I have no way of confirming this.
Regards and Thank You again.

You could contact the 1946 Robert Drummond at his office address in Edinburgh, and ask him! It seems to be also his home address.

EDIT:

Zoopla says the 4-bed upper flat at that address was sold in 2015.
Rightmove says the 2-bed lower flat was sold in 2016.

EDIT again:
The Stenhouse Drive address became the company address on 19/10/2015.
So presumably he's in the upper flat.
