Electoral Roll on FMP gives 2 female McIntosh who have lived in Greenock. Neither have a first name of Eleanor.

Do you know the name of her husband? There's a better chance of using his name as a checking point if they've moved elsewhere.

You can make a free search on http://www.192.com/all/search/ for Mcintosh + Greenock to see the names of all people who registered to vote and appear on the commercial roll.

Have you tried on-line phone books such as www.thephonebook.bt.com ?

is mcintryre her married name and McIntosh her maiden name?

Good point malyon -
Was she born as McIntosh who's mother was a Blain?
Or was she born Blain, married a McIntosh then a further partnership to a McIntyre?

TBH - I did get confused and searched under the surname of McIntosh. :-(

As it happens, http://www.192.com/all/search/ has no results in Greenock for her under McIntryre or McIntyre.
There are 17 results for McIntyre in the whole of Scotland. We really do need to know Mr McIntyre/Intryer's first name to have any chance of finding her.

Did she have any children with Mr M that you know names for? Its possible that some might still be living with her in 2002 which is the earliest ER on line.

Hi all - apologies for the confusion her married name is Macintosh and her maiden name is Bain - mum has no idea of her husbands first name - her first name is Eleanor

Will send you a PM with all Scottish listing on the ER to 2014 for Eleanor McIntosh. To be honest, I don't have a 'good feel' about any of them.

You can check how current they are by using the surname and post code on 192.com. Since 2002, people have been able to opt out of the commercial ER.

If you or your mum didn't mind spending a bit of money, it might be possible to find her marriage on the pay to view site http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
For instance, just using the free search, there are 7 marriages for an Eleanor Bain between 1964 & 1976 (1 in 1963) Using credits to view the registration details might help you decide if they were in the correct area.

Are there any other details that your mother can remember? The names of Eleanor's parents or those of her siblings if she had any? Brothers would be good!

So went on SP - Eleanor Lindsey Bain married Angus Arcibald Mciinnes in 1975

She was 99.9 per cent convinced it was McIntosh

Brilliant! :-D

We do normally advise writing to the address rather than phoning. What with cold calls etc, its all too easy to slam the phone down. The other aspect is that no one knows their state of health, or even if they are about to have a chip-pan fire. (You get the drift)

Out of interest, is this a surprise for your mum, or did she ask you to find her friend?
