Do you have names of any siblings or his parents? No obvious birth coming up in Sheffield.

add, not even seeing a Patwell street in Sheffield,? There's a Patmore Road?

you mean he is James Whitehead, Junior?

There is a birth in Bradford in late 1947 with middle initial A.

A late 1947 birth would have made the person 21 for most of 1969.

A marriage in 1943 in Reading (possibly wartime location?) matches the father's given name & middle initial, and the mother's surname ...

Thank you so much all for helping me.
I am adopted and trying to locate my Father James Junior Whitehead. My Mother was only just turned 16 yrs when she had me and gave me up for adoption. I Have so little information about him, just his address on my adult adoption support Information forms. No Date of birth. Just that it was either 14 Patwell or Patwoll Road Sheffield S5. My Mother was Gwynneth Mary Harrison. She died of a brain tumour at the age of 19. I have been researching now for on & off 20 yrs about my Father with no joy.

What posters were trying to understand is if Junior would appear on his birth certificate. Quite often children named after their parents add Jr or Junior after their surname but aren't registered with that suffix.

Would we be looking for a James J Whitehead or a James Whitehead Jr??

Contact Sheffield Archives and request a look-up for the address in the historic electoral rolls. Unless you can attend yourself, they are likely to make a charge.

He may have been living with other Whiteheads which would help track him down

in case it helps to see it - it looks like it would have been a family home

no luck at Ancestry old phone books finding a Whitehead in 1969 at that address, but the transcriptions are so bad and there are so many Whiteheads in Sheffield ...

if you could give the answer about his name ...

was it written something like

surname Whitehead
given name James Junior

?

"James Junior Whitehead" is just too strange, it must be "Whitehead, James Jr." which is "James Whitehead, Jr."
