JoonieCloonie Report 15 May 2016 00:22

we crossed in the post there Sylvia :-)

since Toronto Sun obituaries appear on the yourlifemoments.com website anyway, yes, it makes sense to just place the notice on line then, and not in the newspaper itself

and then place it in the Toronto Star both online at legacy.com and in the actual newspaper

the Toronto Star is by far the biggest newspaper in Toronto and the country and is widely read on line even by people not in Canada, I find from online political discussions elsewhere :-)

also, for both online sites, google searches finds names at that website ... although of course a search for 'James Alexander Cameron' will take a long time to find that probably ...

I hope Sue follows up on that Detail, because it does seem to maybe have a real chance of reaching the family ... and hopefully they would respond

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 15 May 2016 00:17

we can't tell where that was ... Summit County seems to be in Ohio ... Belmont?

Your James and Sharon would not have had a minor child in 2001 ... they separated in the 1970s ...

James Cameron is an insanely common name, and no doubt quite a few of them in that age range married Sharons :-)

Here is an idea.

Sue can publish an obituary for James in Canada.

This can be done at an online site

http://www.yourlifemoments.ca/sitepages/landing.asp

and also in the Toronto newspapers - there are two

the Toronto Star (thestar.com)

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/

click on 'place a death notice' near the bottom and follow the steps
(I might contact the email address there first to ask about publishing both on line and in the newspaper)

the Toronto Sun (torontosun.com) seems to use the yourlifemoments site but a death notice can also be submitted for newspaper publication

http://yourlifemoments.ca/sitepages/email.asp?pubid=63&emailtype=2

--------------------

I've been asked by someone who is no longer a member but who lives in the Toronto area, to add this extra information ............

"the Toronto Sun would be a waste of money (see JC post at 15:07) there only about 3-4 obits per week vs Toronto Star 3-4 full pages"

Detail

Detail Report 14 May 2016 23:19

They were together

I've just found this and wondered if it could be a possibility

James Cameron
Birth Year: 1948
Residence: Out of State
Spouse's Name: Sharon Cameron
Spouse's Birth Year: 1949
Spouse's Residence: Belmont
Marriage Duration (Years): 29
Number of Minor Children: 1
To Whom Decree Granted: Wife
County of Decree: Summit
Decree Date: 13 Aug 2001
Cerificate Number: 29535
Volume Number: 9066

But the year is slightly out and one child there

thank you very much for doing that for me much appreciated

JoonieCloonie Report 14 May 2016 19:44

Peahen, thank you for your kind words! I can't even say how I thought of that ... it seems so obvious now ... I guess I was thinking of looking for an obituary just in case family in Canada had actually heard of the death and published one, which seemed unlikely ... I had thought earlier about publishing a 'personal' notice in the paper, but nobody reads them anymore ...

Detail, just copy this into your new thread

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/26/thread/1359801

if you can't do that, mention this thread and someone else will do it for you :-)

in this case, the two threads make sense, as this one was looking for living relations of a person, and the other is about his ancestors ... but it also makes sense to link them up, also in case someone runs across them in future

edit - I found your new thread and I have done that now

this is the new thread

Sues grand parents where James mum and father

how do I put the link over on the other thread

Ru Report 14 May 2016 17:15

That's what I love about you JoonieCloonie - you always think outside the square and for me - this is a brilliant idea. It's what research and finding is all about - going where no-one has been before if you get me!

I am sure the Obituary is the thing to do. This would prompt anyone who knows or knew the family in Canada to come forward one way or another.

Well done with that suggestion.

Peahen.

Following this thread with great interest!

JoonieCloonie Report 14 May 2016 16:50

I'm glad that flash of brilliance I had may be useful. :-)

no don't delete this thread!

it is actually very annoying to people who help with questions to find that what we have done is erased

also, you simply never know when someone who is searched for may do an internet search and find a message at this site, even years later.

is the 'find ancestors' thread you want to post about Sue's grandparents' family? I don't quite understand as I thought she was adopted but you say she lived with her grandparents.

in any case if it is not about James himself, it is about ancestors, start a thread on 'find ancestors' but you can include the link to this post

www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/26/thread/1359801

if the info here is relevant:

I Have Been Looking At The Sites And Will Pass The Details Over To Sue As I Do Agree that is a Brilliant Idea,

and I cant Thank you enough for the information you have provide and ive now wrote them down to pass on to sue

So Would I Need To Delete This One And Go On Finding Ancestors to start a different post

many thanks

JoonieCloonie Report 14 May 2016 15:35

no comment at all on my suggestion Detail of an obituary, or had you not seen it yet?

Certainly working on Sue's family tree is one thing, but if she does want to contact her half-brothers and half-sister in Canada, it would be very easy to do as I suggested and it might bear fruit, if not immediately then perhaps in future.

I Have Taken Off Dates Of Births Of People Still Living, but I am still gonna try and see if i can do a family tree of her family and come back to this so gonna start with her nan and granddad as they raised sue and hopefully I can at least find something for her as they run a sweetie shop and see what i can find out

i thank you all for your help and support with this.

This would be a slightly harsh way for the children to learn of his death, but obviously they are not close and it would not likely be devastating.

In the notice Sue could give his birthdate and say when and where he died, and that his daughter would like to contact the three children of James and Sharon in Canada (I would not name them for privacy), last known in Scarborough and last contact at the funeral of their grandmother Agnes Cunningham Cameron, and give an email address (anonymous online email account, something like jamescameronfamily at gmail or whatever name was available there that would work).

The online notices would remain accessible for some years in case someone searched for info about him on line, while the notice in the newspaper would be more likely to catch the eye of a family member or someone who knows the family.

I think since there is really no way to find James's children in Canada, that is about the only thing to do.

Otherwise, Sue could write to every K and I Cameron in the phone book in the Toronto area and hope one would be correct ... but I even wonder whether Sharon might have remarried and the children's surname been changed, given the circumstances.

JoonieCloonie Report 14 May 2016 14:14

It appears that Sue's mother is still living, so Detail (and MargaretM) you must edit the posts in which you gave Janice's date of birth and remove it -- it is not actually relevant here in any case (even the year).

I can't see a birth for Janice at scotlandspeople but there is a marriage after Sue's birth.

Can Sue not get in touch with Janice to ask whether she might know anything about the family in Canada??

Detail

Detail Report 14 May 2016 12:56

Hi MargaretM

That's what I am like I have been looking all over travel records.

But The Ones I Have Found It Is Of That Birth Year 1944 For James A Cameron. But As A Child

Detail

Detail Report 14 May 2016 12:24

yes that is correct sue was in june 1964

and that is sue mothers date of births yes

also Janice was adopted Kent At 6 weeks old

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2016 12:07

Well, that changes things. Sue was born before or about the same time that James Alexander went to Canada.

Detail

Detail Report 14 May 2016 11:04

it seems very strange that even on his death record that it stats the same information

james alexander Cameron full date of 23rd july 1944 he passed in 2013 aged 68/69
which would have made him 72 now

sue (Susanne ) was born in 64 in Edinburgh

as for Sharon i know she was born and lived in Canada
Sharon came over in the 80's,
we have dates on the passport of where he travelled and where he went
montreal July 19th 1964
Ottawa April 11TH 1969

renewed his passport in 9th September 1973
james was also a soldier for hire he worked with a ian smith in south Africa

James Was living in Canada in the 60's and 70's then went to south Africa After leaving Sharon and the kids
she has flight tickets for south Africa 1981 and returned in 1981 the same year

just a bit more information as she is finding it

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 May 2016 23:25

Just for the record, his parents' marriage:

1936 CAMERON ALEXANDER JOHN
CUNNINGHAM AGNES
ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/04 0419

Sorry, still no help with Sharon or her children - it looks like a hopeless search, as there are too many people with those names.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 May 2016 23:03

ScotlandsPeople has no record of the birth of a James Alexander Cameron in Edinburgh in 1944. In fact, none 1940-50.

If 1944 is the correct year, then the most likely one I can find is a James Cameron (no middle name) born in Inveresk & Musselburgh district - a few miles outside Edinburgh.

There seem to have been no James Alexander Camerons born anywhere in Scotland in 1944.
