Go to Search at the top and Select "Search All Member Trees". Look for your father and you will see your half sister has him in her tree on here.

can anyone please explain the post from "clic add reply" if i send a message to that poster will it get to the person who sent it, and is her name rose or is that some sort of generic name for this website,,,, sorry for my ignorance

Roy, we have all sorts of troubles here with new members who don't know how to work the system, and instead of adding their replies to the message thread here as you have done, they click on the name of the person they are replying to

... and that sends a private message that no one else can see, and the member who receives it is often left scratching their head about 'no, my grandmother married John Smith'

because many old members here post in many threads a week ... and a reply like that may relate to a post made weeks ago!

so that's what Rose's 'user name' means - to stop people clicking on her name instead of adding a reply in the thread :-)

(it's confusing of course, because these days we don't really click 'add reply', we just type in the box at the bottom of the messages)

to answer anything anybody says in the thread, just do as you have cleverly been doing, type your reply right here

(unless it is info about living people, which is the reason Elizabeth sent you info privately for instance)

now as to what Rose meant - go up to the top of this web page and you will see SEARCH, click on that and then click SEARCH ALL MEMBER TREES

do the search there for your father with his name and year of birth

when you see him listed as being in someone's tree, click the FIND OUT MORE button next to the person's name, and it will open a form to send that person a message

the site will send an automatic notification to the email address in their account at this website

if the person still has a valid email address in their account at this website (which too often is not the case), they will get that notice and they will be able to reply to your message, even if they do not have a paid subscription at present

hope that helps!

rose, how can i look at at "my half sisters tree", were you able to do so?,,,,, how do I do that>

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 19 Dec 2015 20:11

since I'm here, I'll explain again :-)

you can only look at another member's tree with permission

it is the 'search all member trees' facility that shows whether a particular person is in someone else's tree, without showing the tree itself

did you do the search that Rose suggested?

'Go to Search at the top and Select "Search All Member Trees". Look for your father and you will see your half sister has him in her tree on here.'

that is what you need to do, search for your father by name and year of birth, and you will see the result with the tree owner's name next to it, and you then click on the 'find out more' button beside the name to send a message

hy joonie.
yes i did as rose suggested and have sent a message.
I was just taken by surprise when she mentioned my "half sister", that was news to me because up until a couple of days ago i was certain of only three blood relatives, my father, his mother who i only met twice, and my brother who was separated from me when I was about 5 years old,
I actually have a bit of a tree now,I only had a twig two days ago, so happy days already, again, thanks so much for taking the time to help,I hope to get a certain match and maybe actually talk to some of my own blood very soon.(not including my own kids)

have a cool yule! :-)

JoonieCloonie Report 20 Dec 2015 21:38

ah now Roy ... when you get a private message, you do need to reply by private message rather than here, or the person may be unlikely to see your reply ... and also to keep the conversation private

if you got a private message allowing you to see the tree, there should be a 'Reply' button above it

What a fantastic outcome for you Roy. It couldn't have happened at a better time of year.

The next thing for you to look forward to is to meet your new found family. Even if you don't immediately 'click' you know you aren't alone.

Merry Christmas :-D
