Apologies as some of the information is a bit vague. I'm trying to find some information out on my grandmothers birth family. I know her birth dad's name was James McPhail, who I think was born around 1908 in Edinburgh and died in 1960. He had had a relationship with a lady, which resulted in my grandmother being born in 1932 ( my nana was put up for adoption ). He then married a lady called Mary Terris Yeoman ( think around 1934 ). I know from his death certificate was signed by his son - the only initial I have is J, so I'm working on the assumption his name was James too. I understand if the half brother would find this as a shock as he might not realise he has a half sister and not wish for any contact. Thanks in advance |

If you search "All Members' Trees" on GR (under "Search" at top of page), someone called Victoria has a James McPhail born Edinburgh 1935 in her tree - you could try contacting her, in case he happens to be your James - assuming James is actually his name. |

thank you both for replying. A lot of this particular branch of the tree is guesswork on my part, and sadly my nana is no longer alive to help ( bit of wish I'd asked more when she was still alive ) |

have sent a couple of messages and said I'd understand if they were unaware of a possible half sister to James (1908) and didn't want contact |
