Thought I would just update on my original post. Heard from the Jim Ellis and we are not related however following on from another lead I have now made contact with the family I was hoping to find. Many thanks to all who tried to assist, much appreciated.

I googled ontario corporate information and there is this government site
https://www.services.gov.on.ca/locations/serviceDetails.do?locale=EN&id=11590
which suggests the information is only available by direct request for a fee

nothing I found looked like that but there are lots of commercial sites with company info if you google 'el-bris' or 'kimberly homes', but in my experience with those US based website they are often out of date
I think what you have now though does show James Ellis a builder on the voters' list and the tinyurl link I gave shows Proponent: El-Bris Ltd. (Jim Ellis) back in 2001 (before the insolvency) and there is the link between El-Bris and Kimberly homes which is now identified as 'Ellis Group' in the telephone directory
so if the one on the voters' list is your Jim Jr then I think the current company owner is almost certainly the same person

Thanks again JoonieCloonie; I shall check out the links and info you have given me. One question if I may, do you know if Canada has the equivalent of our Companies Web Check? S

I believe Jim's company may have been El-Bris Ltd unfortunately it became insolvent in 2003 but there are earlier references to it on line e.g.
edited to shorten the URL for those whose browsers cause problems

it does look like them :-)
but after 1974, no listings ... Jessie deceased in 1977, and son James ?
well hm, that would be because Ancestry says the lists are to 1980, but in fact the last one available there is 1974

Dayton may be a red herring then if it wasn't daughter Mary's wedding in question
no harm in trying the J Ellis-s in the telephone book

Hi again JoonieCloonie My mother was still in contact up to 1968 when Jim and Jessie came over to UK.. Looking again at the photos : the Dayton, Ohio pictures show Jim and Jess, and Jim and Jimmy Ellis August 1958. The wedding breakfast picture mentions Mary and her husband and young Jim but there is no clue as to the location or the year. It seems I was not very clear in my additional post : sorry Two of us have been studying two photos with magnifying glass and have concluded that there is a further Jim marked as Young Jim whom we think is Jim's son and Jim and Jessie's Grandson. Three Generations of Jim. (aargh)!!! I believe that Jim died in February 1974 and Jessie in August 1977.

suan I don't think you will mind if I reproduce your PM here ... it isn't clogging up the post, it is giving the complete information available to you that doesn't help if everybody else doesn't have it too! :-)
What we have so far is that James and Jessie arrived in Quebec on the Montroyal in 1924. James was hired on as an engineer at a Saw Mill. The destination address on the form is Chapleau, Ontario. From the 30A it looks as if James had a CPR (Canadian Pacific Railroad) rail ticket to Chapleau from Quebec City. I have a contact in Toronto (thru GR who is also helping and I am updating him with everything that I get so I thought I had better do the same for you so that there is no duplication. I am now going through all my stuff on Jessie to see if I can find descendants of her two sisters who may still be in the Birmingham area. I hope it is alright to PM you but I did not want to clog up the post unnecessarily. Many thanks, Sue
yes, duplication is a definite problem and having different people looking at the problem without knowing others are also doing it can be extremely frustrating
if the other person is a GR member why does he not just join in the thread?? oh, perhaps he does not have a current sub for posting ... I hope he is reading here in any case
the electoral district of Chapleau existed from 1933 to 1967 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapleau_%28electoral_district%29 unfortunately before that it was apparently divided among several districts ... but the lists at Ancestry only go back to 1935 in any event
you have them in Windsor later and it would not be surprising that an engineer would have relocated to the burgeoning centre of auto manufacturing at the time
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_industry_in_Canada
I think maybe tracing Jessie's relations in England may be your best option!

BINGO !!!!!
in the 1950s and 60s in Essex East there is a Mrs Jessie Ellis with husband James, a Ford employee (auto plant, many people on the lists are shown as auto plant employees) on Pillette Road
THIS IS THEM AND I AM STILL READING

unfortunately in early voters' lists in Canada, married women are recorded only as "Mrs Joe Blow"
1935 to 1949 there are a Mr and Mrs James Ellis on Hall Ave in Windsor, him an inspector (a possibility for an engineer), but in one of those years he is recorded as 'James A Ellis' so that rules them out
in the 1950s and 60s there is a Mrs Jessie Ellis in Windsor but her husband is Donald
do you have any idea what decade it was when your mother was writing to them in Windsor? or the decade when Jim died?
I think I'm understanding that the photo is of the wedding breakfast for their daughter Mary, who married in Ohio ... ?
so Jimmy had 3 children by 1958 which would make him born by not much after 1930 likely
but went on to be in Vietnam with the US military for 3 years in the late 1960s (unless he was there pre-Vietnam war as an 'advisor', as the US military called its troops there before the war)
the Arthur Ellis buried in Windsor in 1949 was a veteran, which would mean of either WWI or WWII
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=34105425
because he is buried in the vetarans section (I believe the markers would be standardised there), there is no other info on his gravestone
so he is not likely to be a son of James and Jessie
according to familysearch records, Ontario deaths (other than in WWII) are only accessible up to 1937 at present
in the 1950s and 60s in Essex East there is a Mrs Jessie Ellis with husband James, a Ford employee (auto plant, many people on the lists are shown as auto plant employees) on Pillette Road
in 1974 Mrs Jessie Ellis, retired, is there alone ... but in 1968, James is retired and Jessie is a janitoress, perhaps not likely then
.......... it is very confusing trying to track people through those voters' lists since there are no ages or indications of relationships (except for the 'Mrs Joe Blow' era and then we don't know the name), addresses change ...
just in case any of those street names etc ring a bell
familysearch has 1950s Ohio marriages and none show for Mary or for parents James and Jessie 1957-1959
but it may be that the records aren't complete for all counties ... yes, for Montgomery County (Dayton) there are only marriages for pre-1910

I have no clue how Pinterest works but there is a photo on this page that seems to be of a James Ellis with the caption
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/205969382933459528/
'James Ellis , Feb 24 1968 Camp Evans Vietnam, lost 5 friends last nite in rocket attack. Via James Ellis'
and two others
(you want a strong stomach to view some of the photos from the Vietnam war, and some of the ugly acts they depict and and callous captions)
if you click on that photo it also shows more Vietnam 1967 1968 'via James Ellis', then click on them, etc.
but I just have no idea how to identify/contact people posting these things
okay this seems to be that James Ellis http://www.alpha2-7cav.com/Ellis-3.html and since he was there 1967-68 I don't think that's 'three tours' ... I think a tour was a year
but he might well be interested in helping find info about another James Ellis who was in the military in Vietnam, given his militaristic hyperpatriotism ...
