Hello, I'm looking for Eunice Williams, born in London 1933 to Eunice Williams, nee Sketchley. Eunice snr was married to Frederick J Williams in Barnet in 1932. With thanks.

Hi Caroline.
Are you able to say where and when you last know Eunice to have been, if at all? Do you have any idea if she married?

Just a bit of background info. Sometimes finding death of a parent can lead to finding the child, though I must admit I am struggling with that!

Marriages Dec 1932
Sketchley Eunice S Williams Barnet 3a 1201
Williams Frederick R Sketchley Barnet 3a 1201

???
Births Mar 1913 (>99%)
Sketchley Eunice S C Keep Barnet 3a 834

have asked that Caroline delete duplicate on Ancestors
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1354594

Did Eunice have any siblings?

Freebmd shows three other Williams births with mother Sketchley)
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

the one after Eunice is accounted for by another marriage but the two in the 40s do not have an obvious match in marriages (marriage 1947 in Birmingham, those births are in Lancashire ...)

do you know Eunice's parents full names? middle names are much more useful than initials for searching death records after 1969 for example

and again as asked above: what do *you* know about Eunice ... where she lived, whether and whom she married ... did her parents separate and/or remarry ... that *we* don't know?

if we know less than you do, we have even less chance of finding more ...

do you already know, or have you tried to contact, the person who has
Eunice Sketchley 1913 Frien Barnet
in their tree at this site?

again as noted in the thread on the Ancestors board - on this board read:

'IMPORTANT - Please read before you post a request.'

Thank you so much. JoonieCloonie - thanks for info on duplicate post - it's now deleted. I wasn't sure which section applied and I'm very new to this.

What I know:
Daisy Keep married Thomas Sketchley, (but I think his real name was James Thomas) in Barnet.
They had two children, Eunice S C (only know her middle initials) in 1913 and Audrey in 1916
Eunice married Frederick J Williams in Barnet in 1932 then had baby Eunice in December 1933 in Islington - I don't believe baby Eunice had a middle name as no initial shows on the birth register. She then had a baby boy in September 1936 in Westminster but there's a mistake on the registration and her maiden name is shown as Spetchley. This baby boy was adopted with very little information given. It is possible baby Eunice was adopted, too.

After that there is no trace. It's thought Eunice senior died in the blitz but this hasn't been verified. I don't know if Eunice Williams junior married.

Eunice senior lost all contact with her birth family when she married and had no contact with anyone.

I posted in the hope that Eunice Williams junior or a member of her family may be looking for ancestors.

Thank you again - I have sent a message to the person working on the family tree that lists Eunice Sketchley 1913 Frien Barnet as this is definitely the correct Eunice senior - I've also ordered birth certificates to see if I can establish middle names. I can't find other births of Wiliams nee Sketchley save for Eunice junior and the baby boy.

Given that Williams is such a hugely common name, middle names from those certificates could certainly help! at least to find the parents' deaths.

Middle names and exact dates of birth can be used for searching deaths after 1969.

the CWGC site

http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead.aspx

doesn't seem to show a Eunice Williams civilian war death.

Is it possible that Eunice had remarried before she died? would the children have been adopted because of her death, or was there an earlier event (father's death, parents' separation) that resulted in the adoption?

Obviously there is a lot you don't know of course. Your connection is with Audrey, can we deduce?

If the children were both adopted your trail is going to be unfortunately cold. It's possible that some day, someone may google the names here and find your post, but it's not something you can count on. Be sure to keep your email address up to date in your account in case it happens, because then you will receive notices of private messages (which you can answer even if you have not paid a sub), and also if you click 'watch this' on this thread you will get notices of replies.

the person with Eunice in their tree ... has likely not been active on this site for a long time so may not get notice of your message, but look here (I googled 'genes reunited' with the person's username):

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_chat/thread/843929

and there are email addresses, at least one of which is a permanent one. :-)

fingers crossed that contact does bear fruit

Joonie - that's great on the poster's Email address - I didn't think of looking for her other posts. I will Email her now.

My connection is with the adopted boy who is now fairly elderly. He's tried long and hard to find his sister/half-sister or any other family members but with very little success. It was pre-internet days so I thought I'd try now that we have access to more information. Again, big thanks for the tips and steers.

JoonieCloonie Report 2 Sep 2015 03:17

you're welcome and fingers still crossed :-)

given that Eunice Sr was born and married in Barnet, this is my guess for Frederick R Williams

Births Mar 1909
WILLIAMS Frederick Richard Barnet 3a 403

... which could match with this death

Name: Frederick R Williams
Birth Date: abt 1909
Date of Registration: Jun 1948
Age at Death: 39
Registration district: Dartford
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 5b
Page: 353

... or this one

Name: Frederick Richard Williams
Birth Date: 13 Feb 1909
Date of Registration: May 2002
Age at Death: 93
Registration district: Worthing
Inferred County: West Sussex
Register Number: 1B33C
District and Subdistrict: 7861B
Entry Number: 140

unfortunately there were two Frederick Richard Williams births registered in first quarter 1909, the other in Eton, so it would be a matter of matching the DOB on that second one, or not

once you have his birth cert that should help ... the death certificate could give your friend a lead or at least knowing when he died would be something he would probably like to know

ditto for when you have info from Eunice Sr's birth certificate of course

someone does have Frederick Williams 1909 Barnet in their tree here as well

this is sister Audrey's death (her husband was on the electoral roll with her to 2002)

Name: Audrey Enid Potter
Birth Date: 11 Sep 1916
Date of Registration: Jan 2007
Age at Death: 91
Registration district: Worthing
Inferred County: West Sussex
Volume: -1
Page: -1
Register Number: 1A30C
District and Subdistrict: 786/1A
Entry Number: 051

even that certificate might provide useful info ... she had one child whom I haven't managed to trace after birth ... the child could have been the informant, and might possibly know something about Eunice Sr

the coincidence of the two deaths in Worthing might be interesting
